I got invited to a new (well, new to me) home game last night.
We were playing .25/.50 $20 max NL (I finished the night up $41.50

)
Most of the home games -- actually,
all of the home games -- I've played in have involved crappy ABS/11.5g chips (with the exception, it should be noted, of when I host or provide chips, as I have 500 Faux Clays -- all hail the FCN), so it was sort of a nice surprise and change of pace to show up at a game where something else was in play.
The hosts had a set of 300 hotstamped Unicorns in black, red and grey. The hotstamp was the host's monogram and it was kind of a cool look.
I'd never played with Unicorns before, and the chips are, IMO, on the disappointing side. The mold is nice and the texture of the chips is fine, but they are definitely too light for my taste. Shuffling a stack of 10 wasn't difficult, but they sound very light and thin in a shuffle. I don't do any other chip tricks, so I can't really report on that.
I do like the looks of these chips, especially with the hotstamp.
The one thing I can't fathom - and I know it's been discussed and explained on here -- is why, if they can hotstamp the Unicorns, why oh why can't they hotstamp Faux Clays? I know, I know...they can't. Obviously
everyone wishes that they could, but seeing the HS Unicorns really drove home how nice a solid, HS chip can be.
I wouldn't get a set of these for myself except that I do think they might fit the bill if you were looking for a cost-effective chip that could be HS for security purposes in a big MTT. Certainly they are a nice chip than the 11.5 lot.
Oh, one interesting thing: there were also a handful of blue chips in play, not Unicorns. They were more heavily used than the other chips, were not hotstamped, and had a mold that had top hats (no canes) all around the edge. They were definitely a different material than the Uni's, though I couldn't say for sure if they were clay or just some other kind of plastic chip. If I had to put money on it, I would say that they were some kind of old clay chip. Anyone know anything about them? (I'm sorry I don't have a picture; I know the description isn't much to go on)
