is it trough that when a paulson chip says "paulson" on the face egde. its a softer mold than on real casino chips, like the PNY?

The Samurai's are made for the home market but are Blue Chip Co's casino grade chip. As we speak there is no other Blue Chip available that has the weight of the Samurai and in fact I don’t think many of the chips they produce for casino's weight as much.

As for the Paulson's, a lot of people say it is a different mixture of clay but personally I have never heard anything that sounded factual on this and I think its just people guessing. I have a number of Paulson casino chips and the 2005 James bond chips and while some of the casino chips are a little different some are exactly the same. Clay chips can vary a lot from batch to batch and I personally attribute it to that. On the other hand Paulson does produce chips with metal flakes and some without so obviously this tells you they do use different mixtures.

Re: 2 fast questions about mold.

I've handled a bunch of casino paulsons and they run the gammit for feel, some giant inlay chips are hard and slippery while others are soft and light. Not sure why the difference. Some of my casino paulsons feel hard like bluechips while others feel like TRKs. Maybe each batch is hand mixed I don't know, but there's all types.

Oh and just for clarification it’s not the "mold" that is softer. The mold is a piece of metal that basically stamps (molds) the chip. If the chips are different its attributed to other factors such as the type of compounds used in the chip (not even authentic clay chips are 100% clay, their actually a combinations of around 10-15 different materials of which at least one is an earthen material such as clay or sand or something - no one really knows for sure). It is likely also affected by the amount of pressure and the temperature at which the chips are molded at.

Re: 2 fast questions about mold.

I believe the home chips are a different composition from casino chips. If you try the 'crayon test', that is, take a home chip and a piece of paper and write on the paper with the edge of the chip, you'll see it transfers to the paper quite easily and readily. Try the same with a casino grade chip and it doesn't seem to transfer as easily. If you shuffle home chips, the color seems to transfer to other chips quite readily, but less so with casino grade chips.

You may very well be right but another thing I think you have to consider is the color of the chips being compared. We know for a fact that some colors are lighter and can be more fragile/rugged than others. The mold it self plays into it as well - not to discount my earlier post but it does effect the chips other than aesthetically so I have to believe all these elements (mold, color and variations between batches) play into it. Again, on the color issue, even ASM and certainly BC have variations between each batch of color; so one batch of say Red vs. another batch of Red may have a slightly different characteristic not only in color but also one batch may have a little more of this and a little less of that making it end up creating a harder or softer chip by some degree...

To me these types of things just make more since than some conscious effort on GPI's end to produce some minuscule variation between home and casino grade chips. I mean really, other than us, no one is going to be able to tell, least of all some half hung over 20 year old in the cage who's lowly job it is to check the chips, particularly if they didn’t already notice the different mold, different edge spots, different inlay and different color scheme...

Don’t take this the wrong way however, I’m just surmising also, I obviously I don’t know either.
