Chips: 114 | | | painting edge colors yourself Okay first off let me say I know this sounds dumb but,, what kind of paint do you think would work best? I was thinking about just going to the hobby lobby and asking them what they thought but maybe someone here knows or has even tried it before? Next I thought about going to a ceramic shop and seeing what they could do but since these are clay chips im sure they would just melt away to nothing. im going to try it on a few chips just to see how it works out. i think it will jack up the way the chips stack and shuffle but maybe with a little work i can get it perfect. anyhow what do you think? the link is what i think i might try first just to see if it works http://www.uniball.com.sg/html/produ...aint%20Markers

Chips: 431 | | | Re: painting edge colors yourself If these chips are indeed real clay chips of any value, you are doing the chips a huge disservice by even attempting to defile them in for the sake of a custom looking edgespot.
I seriously doubt anyone in your circle of poker would appreciate the effort even if you got them perfect (which is unlikely) and the chips would be forever ruined for resale.
Now, on the other hand these are total cheap WalMart plastic RED/WHITE/BLUE chips, then seriously why even waste your time; for the time and effort, buy some real chips and chuck those things in the circular file.
IMO, based on all the varying chips and their quality, I can't think of one chip type where actually permanently changing the edgespot with paint would make sense, but if there were such a chip, then creating a 20+ jig with stencils to mask off the chips and then spray painting the chips in large groups seems to be the only reasonable option.

Chips: 70 | | | Re: painting edge colors yourself Well, i guess you could paint edgespots to Faux. I think someone did it here, and it didn't look so bad. To improve the look of Faux in stack it is ok as edgespotted 10g chips are much more (i think the cheapest normal prices go at 50c-60c a chip for new chips). However that will pretty much destroy the value of Faux if it will skyrocket as more and more colors start getting hard to find, so if you want to keep your Faux as a good investment when thinking of the future you should not do anything to your Faux.
I think i'm gonna buy 5000 more faux and sell them for $1/chip someday . |

Chips: 2,654 | | | Re: painting edge colors yourself I would say that thats probably not a good idea but if the chips aren't too expensive and you'd like to mark them up to find out. Go ahead with it. I remember When I was 9y/o everyone told me not to spray paint my Schwinn bicycle with silver spray paint. I figured paint is paint, what did I know. I spray painted everything silver including the seat and ruin the bicycle. I would get silver stains on my pants when I'd ride it. Everyone thought I was a jerk but I was convinced it was cool. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Good Luck! |

Chips: 1,861 | | | Re: painting edge colors yourself I don't think it'll work to well, internetgolf. Counterfeiters change casino checks to $100's sometimes with paint and invariably some of it chips off and they find out who put that check into play via the cameras.
Therefore, if the paint is chipping off within minutes of being put into play it's not even a temporary solution, let alone a permanent one.

Chips: 14 | | | Re: painting edge colors yourself Wear would be my concern. Almost any type of paint is going to wear and chip, even with a small amount of play. So you may put in a lot of work and get chips that look great - for the first hour of your first game.
It's possible there is some special type of paint that would work well, but most that I can think of will chip and scuff.
Maybe permanent ink would be better than paint? The problem there is color availability, and that in a porous (clay) chip, it might bleed. |

Capstone | If you want it perfect, stencils are a must. Then, you have to start with an adhesion promoter (try auto supply places). Then spray the colors. If someone asked me to do this to 500 chips, if I did it at all, it'd be at the least $5/chip.
