First time chip buyer

I'm new to this forum, but have been reading up on all the different brands of poker chips out there. Being this is going to be my first set, I really don't want to spend more than $100 or so on a set of 500 chips. I found a set that looked pretty good at Pokernstuff.com and wanted to know if anybody has had any experience with these chips.

The link is http://www.pokernstuff.com/index.asp...OD&ProdID=3264

I was also considering the Soprano 10g chip, but really liked the denominations on the chip listed above.

Re: First time chip buyer

Hello to you and welcome to Chiptalk!

I do not have experience with the chips you have mentioned, but I think that you'll find the "Reviews" section very informational when looking at all the various chips out there.

I predict that "faux clay" will be mentioned early and often as a response to a first, inexpensive chip set.

Good'luck,

~Wiz

Re: First time chip buyer

You're right there are many options. Those chips look quite good.

If you know how to play online then there is the PSO promotion to consider.

Just a word of warning -please think about what quantities of chips you want - most of these budget sets give you a pretty rubbish distribution of chips. Think about it then order. See www.homepokertourney.com for tons of information and loads of reviews on chips.

Re: First time chip buyer

Welcome to the board.

I have no experience with those chips and really have never seen them before, but I can imagine what they are like.

I just posted this today, might want to read it:
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...tory-pics.html

The reason it would be a good read is because if you are kind of getting into poker chips, this set will not hold you over and you will more than likely be buying something newer/better/more expensive in no time.

Let's say you can bump up your budget to $150 and hold off on buying a few weeks, this could buy you 350 ceramic WSOP replicas, which will be a great chip. There is also a chance you can get 400-500 or so Bellagio ceramic replicas for $150.

Faux clays are an awesome option and they are just .04 cents per chip. You could get 2000 faux clays for $100.

My point is, if you buy the set you posted you will be paying probably .20-.25 cents per chip after shipping, which is not as good of value in comparison to what else is out there. The Bellagio group buy just ended for .27 cents per chip and they are much better quality chips. I would definitely settle for 300-400 better quality chips than get 500 chips of lesser quality.

Good luck with the decision, and again welcome to the board!!

Re: First time chip buyer

panthershutch15 said it, take your time and really consider your budget. There are loads of GB's here are some great deals on great chips... a cheap chip is a cheap chip.

I have to agree with Button Potato here... I got on her a few months back looking for advice on sticking labels on some fauxs or nexgens.... and now here I am mostly done with a design for custom ceramics.

Re: First time chip buyer

I suggest you follow three steps before buying:
#1 Get samples

#2 Get more samples

#3 Get samples of chips you aren't even considering

Good luck, and remember there's no cure for Chipaholics

Welcome to Chip Talk. Sopranos are awesome chips and so are Faux Clay for any one looking for their first set with a budget under 100.00. ( There is a large and vocal contingent of CTers that firmly believe that Faux Clay rules the world.) But before spending money on chips check out this site and take a look around at what we're looking at. Panthershutch is right. There are some great chips available on this site and you won't regret taking your time. Everyone will be glad to answer any questions you can think of.

Re: First time chip buyer

Welcome to the board.

I don't have any experience with that chip, but I've seen many people spend money on a set of chips and wished they had waited for something better.

What is more important to you? Feel of the chips or looks? The Bellagio tribute ceramics are pretty close to your budget and have quite a few denominatinos. For inexpensive and clay feel you can't beat the Faux Clays. Without incurring the wrath and fury of the Faux Clay Nation, I can see how they would leave a little to be desired in looks to a first time buyer. But, they are great for the money.

Keep reading, and get samples. And if you do that, keep saving because you'll become an addict.

Good luck!
