Need advice on buying ChipCo chips... Mix'N'Match or complete line

Hi,
This is my first post in this forum so please be nice!

I own a 650 set of Paulson Pharaohs but have fell in love with my ChipCo samples. They look cool and handle well doing chip tricks and shuffling.
I also think that my non-chip-experienced poker friends will better understand the coolnes of the ChipCo chips than the sophistication of the Paulson Clay chips (oh by the way, I'm not selling those! .

Now I want to buy a 500 set of ChipCo chips but since there are so many cool designs I can't decide which one I want so one idea is to mix and match different designs from the ChipCo line.

I would like to have your honest opinion on what looks coolest/best/worst, going with...

1. A mix'n'match set of different ChipCo chips...
or
2. Going with one line of chips, in this case the Egyptians?

I've created an image here... http://www.mandrillo.se/grafik/Chip/...rEgyptians.jpg

...and please give me YOUR oppinion as chip freaks, what combination do YOU think looks best and is the coolest?!

Thanks!

Personally, I like the matched set option myself.

Welcome to the forum!

I was going to tell you to go with the Egyptians since they are super cool and that you absolutely should not mix chips together. But after looking at your picture i must say that it looks kindah cool. I've never even thought about that!

I have samples of several Chipco lines, but prefer all one line for playing sets.

One additional comment, if the chips have a neutral theme (Classics, Casino, Archetype) you could probably pull it off. For those chips with a strong theme (Egyptians, Crystal Oysters, etc), it just doesn't look right IMHO.

Re: Need advice on buying ChipCo chips... Mix'N'Match or complete line

I guess to each his own but I would steer you away from a mixed set for a couple of reasons.

One is that usually themed sets like Crystal Oyster or the Egyptians are made to be played as a set. There is a continuity to the set that is lost if you mix in chips from other sets. For example, in the original Crystal Oysters, each denomination had one more edge spot than the next smaller denomination. The $1 chip had two spots, the $5 had 3, the $25 four, etc. This was lost somewhat when they came back in and added odd denoms such as the $10 and $50 chips. But if you stick to the original denoms, you'll still have that flow to the set.

Second reason is resale value. A complete set is always more valuable than a few from one set and a few from another. So unless you know you're going to hang onto these chips for life, get a matched set.

mmmmm… Chipco. Superb graphics, and so many beautiful chips to choose from. How to make such a decision?

Good news Darren, I have a solution. Select your 5 favorites, and get a complete set of each. That was simple really, glad I could help
And welcome to the forum BTW. This site ROCKS

Yes I have. Actually two of the ChipCos that I've considered for my Mixed set but they got in 5th and 6th place after long consideration... there's just too many cool ChipCo chips out there, that's my dilemma!

One of my thoughts with the ChipCo set was to have the same denoms as the Paulson Pharaohs as a "chip back up plan" when we run larger tournaments. In that case going with the Egyptians ChipCos would also add to the Egyptian theme, is this a good approach?
