Chips: 1,214 | | | How many colors is too much? WSOP question... I am thinking of expanding upon a set I have put together and have some questions.
1. Currently, I have 500 chips. I want to use them for both low level cash games and tourneys. I currently have the following denoms...
Amt/Denom
200 (25)
100 (50)
100 (100)
50 (500)
50 (1000)
I am thinking of adding 50 250 denoms. Starting stacks for a 20 man tourney would be...
10 (25)
5 (50)
5 (100)
2 (250)
2 (500)
2 (1000)
This would leave some chips for color-up and allow for 26 chips and starting stacks of $4500 with blinds starting at 25/50.
Questions - Is this too many colors (the chips will have denoms)? What does the WSOP start with? Do you think it will work?
Thanks for any input. |

I start with 3 denoms and if I have to 4. Starting stacks though are purely personal preference. Here is my starting stack for a T5000
$25 x 12
100 x 12
500 x 7
Blinds start at 25/50 ... First color up gets rid of the $25 chip, maybe introduce the $1000 chip if needed. Second color up gets rid of the $100 chip and for sure the $1000 chip comes out.

8x green 25
8x black 100
8x pinkish 500 (this is generally purple chip)
5x yellow 1,000
29 chips worth T10,000
I prefer 3 or 4 different colors/denominations
At least 25 chips to start with, preferably 40 or so
Here is a good T5,000 structure
20x 25
15x 100
6x 500
41 chips worth T5,000
Blinds
25-50
50-100
100-200
150-300
200-400
300-600
400-800
600-1200
1000-2000
1500-3000
2000-4000
3000-6000
Adjust accordingly |

Chips: 1,214 | | | Re: How many colors is too much? WSOP question... Ok guys, thanks. I saw where in 2005 they started with 5 denoms. I know it is a lot and it is not ideal, but they will be denominated and the way I built the set (labelled Paulsons), it's very difficult to expand it. Adding "middle" values seems the only way.
I'll have to cogitate on it. I think I gotta pull the trigger though. |

Chips: 3,049 | | | Re: How many colors is too much? WSOP question... Well, to add to the set, get more 25 and 100 denoms, thereby eliminating the 50s and 250s. Instead of 100 50's, get 50 100's. Instead of 50 250's, get 25 500's... Food for thought. Remember though if it's your set you get whatever you want. Thats what makes it yours. |

T2500
10 $5
10 $10
10 $25
21 $100
This has worked well even thouth I know many people will think the $10's are not necessary. I like them.

We were using 50's at the home game for a while, but they just ended up getting in the way and making it more difficult for people to figure out how much they had, or others had.
Back to the OP, in general I would say that you don't want to have any more than three - or at most four - denominations on the table at the same time. It makes it difficult to easily discern how many chips a person has, or are in the pot, when you are looking at more than three different chip colors. Difficult for me, anyway. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
