Condado Beach...heavy chips

So I got my 6 chips in and weighed them like I do with any new chip I get. Boy are they heavy, and they feel it. 11.3-11.9 grams for a Paulson clay chips seems pretty heavy to me. I measured the chips and they are pretty consistent with my other TH&C's so I'm not sure why they are so heavy vs. the others. Never seen one weigh more than 10.8 grams before these.

Re: Condado Beach...heavy chips

Can you post a scan of the chips that you bought? I will try to find a scale to weigh mine with. I never noted a weight difference.

May I ask where you found CBH Paulsons?

Re: Condado Beach...heavy chips

I got them from Mutt in the M2M at this link, you remember it?

http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/member...take-look.html

Mine are the ones on the right, JM (lucky dog) got the better ones on the left.

Weight can vary a lot depending on the colors and edge spots. You might find some other denoms are lighter but the ones I weighed are going to all be over 11 grams. Something else I noticed is the mold difference between these and the orginal TH&C's, the center section is a little different and probably has more clay overall.

I still need to do that review on my pocket scale, gotta love it.

Thanks. I forgot about the partial set. That one didn't originate with me so I wasn't paying as much attention to it.

Re: Condado Beach...heavy chips

I'll take mine to work with me and put them on the precision balance and post the weights of each one here later this week. These things measure to 1/10th of a milligram, so it should be interesting.

It will be interesting to know what your chips weigh in at for comparison. My digital scale measures to the 1/100th of the gram and I just round up.

Re: Condado Beach...heavy chips

As promised, I did the measurements on these last nite. Interesting results:

$1 - 11.299g
$5 (light) - 10.665g
$5 (dark) - 11.512g
$25 (dark) - 11.128g
$25 (light) - 9.872g
$100 (blue spots) - 11.855g
$100 (other version) - 11.513g
$500 - 11.816

Definitely right around 'official casino weight' for all but a couple of these. I have a theory on why. We know from another thread that they use lead powder in paulson chips to increase the weight. Jamby mentioned in another thread that these were made in the 60's. I'm thinking that they used a higher amount of lead then as the regulations were more lax back then and tightened up later on.

Re: Condado Beach...heavy chips

Thanks for posting the weights JM. As to when they were in use, I'm unsure as I posted in the other thread. Black's guide states 'circa 1960s' for the casino, but we also know that the casino reopened under various managements in later years.

The Rollins/Davis guide shows casino open dates from 1949 through 1999.

Dates for these actual chips remain a mystery.

I have a couple of emails outstanding requesting more info, but nothing yet.

Re: Condado Beach...heavy chips

so when you three make questionable plays, you can just blame it on lead poisoning?
