Question about Paulsons

OK...The disease is spreading!!! I had been content with my collection until this site Now I'm thinking of making the jump from ceramics to clay but I have a few questions.
1. Is there a difference between the paulson taditional chips and the pharoahs other than the middle?
2. Also..since I'm not loaded I was going to build my set slowly (maybe 100 at a time etc). If I do this, is there any chance of getting different batches of chips and thus slightly different colors? i.e. 50 orange chips now and 50 in 2 months..any chance they may not match? Just wondering.
3. Which one do you guys like best?

Thanks for the info...and the addiction

Re: Question about Paulsons

The Trademarks/Classics are the same mold and colors as the Pharaoh's, with a different inlay. I did what you plan to do...it took me about 4-6 months to accumulate my 500 Paulson Classics set. Not sure if they were from a different batch or not, but all are identical...so i do not think you need to worry about this. I think the Pharaoh's is a better design, but I wanted a more generic chip. I love the blue chip in the Classics set, but did not need a $10 chip. I couldn't stand the color scheme of the $1 Classics chip, so I got 100 real $1 Bellagio chips, and it works well with the set. So I got my blue chip and eliminated the white/red inlay Classics $1 chip at the same time.

Re: Question about Paulsons

if you're asking about a difference between the older top hat & cane and the newer "paulson" mold, there's a big difference IMO. the th&c's are much better, but will cost you a good bit more and it will be hard to get them 50 at a time or so.

Re: Question about Paulsons

Oops. By "traditional" I thought you meant the "Classics" or "Trademark" Paulsons. I agree with Stank1000 that if you mean the older Paulson TH&C chips, there is no comparison, the older ones are best....and you'll pay for it.

Re: Question about Paulsons

Even though Paulson's are recognized as the best clay chips by most, there are many other good clay chips on the market. You may prefer another chip and can only find out by ordering samples. It is worth taking a little time when making a big investment. TR King, Blue Chip and ASM make good chips and ASM offers affordable customs.

And don't forget you can get very good chips and very good deals buying from other members.

Re: Question about Paulsons

Thanks for the info guys. I'm looking at the Paulson's because I was planning on getting some of them through ecasinodeals and using some points..so that is why I haven't really considered the other manufacturers..as I'm hoping to save some money.

As far as if they are the old one's or not I can't tell. Here is a pic..

Can you guys tell which ones these are?

Thanks

The ones you reference are made with the new mold and will cost about $1 per chip. Look closely at the chip in the following picture to see the difference in the mold.

Re: Question about Paulsons

Those chips are the "Trademarks" or "Paulson Classics". They are on the new Paulson home mold which contains the words "Paulson Chips" and two Top Hat and Cane logos.

The chips commonly referred to as TH&C (Top Hat and Cane) chips are on the mold in the post above. 8 TH&C logos. These chips are made for casinos only. The only way to get them in the home market is to get retired(or active) casino chips. These are not available for home chips.

There is a difference between real TH&C casino chips, and the Paulson Home chips. The home chips are still really nice chips though.

Re: Question about Paulsons

I recently purchased 500 "trademarks" from bostonpokerchips and i'm pretty happy with them. He was offering a great price and the transaction went pretty well. The link to the deal is here http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/boston...son-chips.html

Re: Question about Paulsons

I know it has been noted that a credit for a particular retailer has been a factor in the narrowing down to Trademarks vs. Pharoahs denoms, but we are talking about your ultimate set here right?

So I'll play devil's advocate and throw one more curve into your decision: what about also considering what I personally think is the complete realization of the Pharoahs genius artistic design: the NCVs.

Before pulling the trigger on a set of Pharoahs denoms purchase a sample set of Pharoahs NCVs from Michael at HoldemPokerChips.com
I find that the extra artistic touch on each chip, replacing the dollar figure, really puts these over the top of the denoms.
