Chips: 81 | | | 14g nexgen Hey guys, great site!
I live in Australia where its hard to get good chips. I have a crappy set of dice and want an upgrade. Ive found a local site that has 1000 nexgens for $275 (AUS) but they say they are 14g! Are these knockoffs? They have sample sets, where u get one of each chip, how would i know its a knock off??
Link --> http://www.pokershop.com.au/shop/index.php?cPath=34_53
I wish i could get faux clay, but shipping to here is so costly. The chips may cost $60 US but shipping is about $150. I have found some reasonably priced faux off US ebay --> are they a better chip than (real) nexgens??
Otherwise, there are nevada jacks, but they are around $550 for a set of 500.
Thanks for your help guys. |

Chips: 64 | | | Re: 14g nexgen not really up to date on the Australian/US exchange rate but the nexgens arnot THAT much better than what you have now. Now they are better, but for that price i probably wouldnt bite. You could buy skulls from the NJ website and request international shipping for a fee. You could also buy any chip you like from a member here. |

Chips: 507 | | | Re: 14g nexgen That sure looks like the Nexgen Las Vegas mold, but I have never seen these chips with all white edgespots before. I would be somewhat cautious before laying down any money for these chips. Looking at the price, you would be better off getting a set of faux clays and paying the shipping than buying those chips. Check the member to member sales on this site too. You will be surprised at some of the deals out there.
Oh, welcome to Chiptalk

I share your pain re: shipping. Why do we have to be so far away from the US?
Anyway, I got a couple of samples of these Nexgens. My scales aren't accurate enough to tell the weight exactly but they are measurably heavier than the handful of Nexgen River Poker Tour chips I ended up getting. The colours are also wrong: Black has white edge-spots and the blue chips are noticeably darker in colour than some other blue nexgen he had left over from the last time he carried them. Actually, weighing his two batches, the light blue (matching what I've seen on other websites) Las Vegas ones are lighter in weight also. And the darker ones feel more plasticky, though they still have some texture around the edges and a recessed centre for labels.
I did get great, responsive service and have no definitive proof but they're not quite what I'd expected.
Another option which I'm taking myself is to do one of the PokersourceOnline promotions for Nevada Jacks. They won't post to Australia but I'm having it posted it to someone in the states and it'll cost maybe $80US to post out 500 chips (6 weeks by slow ship), less for 300. The Bellagio group-buy will only cost around $80US postage for 500 chips also (Fedex, so more reliable and quicker than USPS), and at US27.5c or so per chip it is definitely worth a look. Tempted myself but I shall resist...for now.
I wish I had some better news on the postage front but hope the advice above is helpful.
Regards,
David.

Chips: 336 | | | Re: 14g nexgen I contacted Ivan from Straight Flush.ca and he's confirm with the only importer of Nexgens that these chips are not made by Nexgen.
" they do not make/distribute/endorse these 14g Nexgens....so they are clearly a knockoff. "
" It is not very difficult to have chinese manufacturers make your own line of chips, the costs are very low. I can see why discountpokershop had that done with the Nexgen chips...take advantage of a solid known name, reproduce them at a fraction of the cost. "
Stay away from these junky chips. Nexgens aren't that great, so I could imagine what the quality of these knock offs are. |

He had 200 left over from when he used to stock Nexgens in the past (there was about a 6 month gap between then and getting in these 14g 'Nexgens') and was having trouble getting rid of them so they didn't cost much. However 200 chips (+24 Blue Las Vegas) isn't really enough to do much with - I'm building a 'travel-set' which can accommodate T10,000 x6 players.
I'm afraid I don't know of any other source of Nexgens locally. And I've never seen any Faux Clay or Sopranos here Just out of curiosity (and for the sake of group-buys if we ever get enough locals together), which city are you in?

David.
EDIT: The place is even out of Red chips (down to Blue, Black, Purple and I think White) which would be pretty limited even if they were real. Given your budget I'd check out the Bellagio Group buy - 500 ceramic chips for around the same as those 'Nexgens' even after posting from the US. If you need a bigger set you can always use the dice and save these for the final table! But, seriously, 500 chips is plenty for a 10 player tournament and can probably be stretched a bit further if you choose your denominations carefully.

Chips: 340 | | | Re: 14g nexgen I hear Perth is really nice but, yeah, far away from everywhere.
One thing I noticed when messing about now is for orders of under 75 chips Holdempokerchips (a sponsor with whom I am not associated) will ship by USPS Global Priority Envelope (small for <=25 chips = $5.25, large up to 75 chips = $9.50). While this may not be ideal for a full set, if you need to supplement a ceramic or clay set or want some samples it may be worthwhile.
To get it to come up you have to go to the checkout, balk at the ridiculous cost of UPS international shipping, fill in your address etc. details and then change the shipping option. This is a much cheaper option for samples etc than I had previously been aware of...I fear the temptation may be too great
Good luck with your purchase, whatever you decide.

Chips: 384 | | | Re: 14g nexgen FYI -
I checked and am able to send 30# to Perth (4-5 days) for $79 with my FedEx discount. (shipping only, not sure of any other fees/tax?)
This weight accomodates 1000 real Nexgens and some sheets of labels.
David - if you need help from a member to send your PSO set just let me know.
I would be happy to help another member or two Down Under...
