Plaques -What's the hype?

I have been looking around here for a couple of weeks and have seen all the plaques that are out there. I was wondering why are so many people raving about these plaques. I have never seen one in a casino, except on TV and the trend was mostly casinos in Europe used them. What's the hype?

So I was on www.holdempokerchips.com wanting to order a sample set of the egyptians and figured I would check out the plaques that match and the octagon $1000 chips as well.

I had some expendable brithday cash so I figured I would order 5 of each one along with the sample set of Egyptians and Samurais. Thinking, if I like them, then I will have a few to show off and if I don't, then maybe just maybe I could unload them on here...

Well they showed up in the mail today and I have to say that these plaques are simply awesome! I WANT MORE!!! I completely understand the hype behind the plaques now. That is one beautiful work of art!

I can not wait till I can get enough of these and introduce them into the set up for a large tournament with the guys. I swear if their jaws don't hit the floor when they see them, there is something wrong with them!

I don't know whether to say thanks or start cursing at everyone on this board for having introduced me to these plaques, because the wallet is going to take a hit next month!

Re: Plaques -What's the hype?

I've been finding myself debating picking up a few plaques after seeing the FTP invitational in Monte Carlo. There's just something about the idea of those plaques that has me salivating.

My games are strictly small-stakes, but it'd be nice to break these out once in a while. I'm glad to see you're happy with 'em -- puts me one step closer to picking some up.

I totally agree, and I feel exactly the same way (as I am sure most on this board do). However feeling that way has led me to believe that there is something wrong with most people. They just don't get into this stuff the same way we do..... and EVREYONE knows that WE are normal, there couldn't be anything wrong with US! lol!

Re: Plaques -What's the hype?

See, thats what I said until I got ahold of some matsui plaques and after that I was sold. Now I've got to have plaques for all the sets and formal plaques in case the set I'm using doesn't make plaques or God forbid I should run out of plaques. I see this as a simple extension of my primary addiction and hence nothing to worry about.

I had some houseguests who had been boggled at the time I was putting into selecting chips. One has a super sweet set of starburst Paulsons he got years ago (blackjack player), and he had been kind enough to let me use them my last trip out. The other had an unopened set of some dice chip like chips (and experience playing with the slick heavy chips).

We played a 3 quick NLHE tourneys and they were sold.

So I make a trip out to visit, and some more friends come over. One says, I don't really understand what the fascination is - we could use M&Ms. Within 5 minutes: these are really nice. Within 10 minutes: I feel like we're playing a more serious and fun game. After about an hour: these feel really great in my hands - now I know why you're constantly shuffling them.

The plaques and octogons were a big hit - although I prefer to play with my TR Kings for feel the Egyptians have a big 'wow' factor.

Plaques are way kool!! I'm partial to this 70's set once used at the Sahara in Las Vegas on their baccarat tables.

These were made by B&G and if anyone else out there has any, I am interested in knowing the serial numbers.

Re: Plaques -What's the hype?

I brought the plaques home and showed them to my girlfriend, prior to talking her ear off about how much I love them and want to get more...

One look and she says "Oh man these are awesome, how come you only got 5 of them!"

Do I have the best girlfriend in the world or not!!! Guess I had better go by that ring first though!!!

One question, I went to HoldemPokerchips.com to show her the Formal Plaques, because these will go with my custom Chipcos better than the Egyptian plaques, but they do not have the $5000 denom Formal plaque on their site. Does anyone know if they are still selling these plaques?
