Property Room Auction - Deal or Dud? - UPDATED

Auction on PR was listed a few days ago. The listing including the following information:

Poker Chips in Case Black leather case with brass latches and a black leather handle is lined with green velvet and has eight valleys for holding poker chips. The case measures 20 1/4" x 8 1/2" x 2 1/4". The leather on the corners of the case is splitting. The valley separators are loose.
The case contains an assortment of plastic poker chips in red, white, blue and black. There are no denominations on the chips just the letter T in gold on both sides.

Condition: Fair

However, looking at the photos, something struck me that these look a little better than plastic chips

I imported the photo into PhotoShop and played around. I am 99% sure I can see the T&C in the mold (or is it wishful thinking), and I feel the hotstamp was a positive clue. There appear to be around 600 chips

I won the auction for $23, after a last minute attempt at a steal by another CT'er...

So did I get a deal, or is it a dud?
Any opinions?

Of course the final answer will arrive sometime late in the week

600 chips for $23 is a deal pretty much no matter what chips they are.

Re: Property Room Auction - Deal or Dud?

I doubt they are Paulsons if only for one reason - they look to have pretty sharp edges for chips that are in "fair" condition. If they were Paulsons, you would think the edges would be rounded off a good bit.

I hope they are, though. Good luck and let us know.

Re: Property Room Auction - Deal or Dud?

I'm wondering if the fair condition was referring to the case,, they explain the case much more than the chips and it sounds damaged.

I was thinking they were talking about the case too, but, really, if they were Paulsons - and they might be - you would expect some color transfer on the whites and reds also.

Who knows? Time will tell.

Not sure if they are Paulsons. Looks like a tophat but I can't see a cain. They could be those plastic chips with the tophat mold, I have seen pictures of them posted around here before.

Re: Property Room Auction - Deal or Dud?

Chips arrived today...... DEAL!!!!

Brand New, factory fresh Paulsons
146 Reds
145 Blues
97 Whites
47 Blacks
(435 total)

The case was in bad shape, and had remnants of two "evidence" stickers on it. There was also a make-shift dealer button in the case made out of a sanded down dice chip and DEALER written (faded) in Sharpie.

Hotstamp "T" for Technoguru is a bonus...
