I'm almost done with my pso offer for the nj skulls, but I think I am going to keep them for small tourneys I play with family.. But I play in a .25/.50 nl game and we use the dice chips.. I was looking at the riverpokertour nexgens and really like them.. On ebay the guy will hotstamp artwork, and I was wondering if there are any copyright laws if I had him put an iowa hawkeyes logo on it?

I'm thinking I should shut up unless I want to start getting negative reps... BUT

Unless Iowa (Iowa State, right?) is foolish like.....hmmmm...I can't remember. There a university that had a stylized orange "G" for their logo. Anyway, they never registered it as a university trademark and thus couldn't charge licensing fees or anything. So they changed the university logo.

Anyway, unless Iowa is stupid like that, yes, the hawkeye logo is likely trademarked. However, if (a) your EBay guy will do the hotstamp and (b) you aren't going to do a bunch in order to resell, it's doubtful anyone will pay attention or care.

The Hawkeyes are University of Iowa. Iowa State University is the Cyclones. HUGE rivalry, don't mix them up

On topic: Being that Iowa is a very large school and the Hawkeye logo was created for them, I'm sure it is copyrighted. However, I have seen other Iowa schools (high schools) use the same logo.

Oh yeah. Ran a search at uspto.gov. They own about 6 graphic versions of the bird and 2 registrations of "Iowa Hawkeyes". Apologies to all you Iowans. Didn''t mean to rile your feathers.

I just hear a lot about both of them and the rivalry, I actually go to Drake University in Des Moines, but hopefully Iowa State for grad school.

You know, I did some quick research on the web after reading another "infringement" thread - I found a reference to what looks like a trademark case in US District Court / Nevada that may be poker chip related:

I just checked with my boss, he’s a die hard Hawkeye alum. According to him, the Hawkeye logo can and SHOULD appear on pretty much every item used in daily life. I guess that includes chips.

Yea, i'd appreciate it if you never call me a cyclown again .. anyways I just heard back from the guy that does it and he said he wouldn't be able to use the logo since its obviously copyrighted.

Just out of curiosity did you ask him "can you use the hawkeyes logo?" or "can you use the hawkeye's logo even though it's copyrighted?" or did you just give him an image and ask him to use it?
