Pulled the trigger on a new set.

I started off w/ cheapy target brand chips from the wife 2 Christmassseess ago (never really used those much). The next set was bought 6 months ago got me playing pretty much every week. They are the ultra slick/slippery High Rollers I thought were the cat's ass when I firt got them, but after 6-months of weekly tournaments, I couldn't stand using the slippery bastages any longer. So my quest for a more "playable" chip began. I don't have the cash to lay-out for a set of compression clays right now, so I was looking to get about 1,000 chips that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. The most important thing to me was how well they played and how stable the stacks were. After having stacks fall over constantly, this was going to be the key focus for me. I also wanted denoms if possible, and/or some customization potential.
So, I looked @ Nexgens, NJ Skulls, Neophytes, Crown Wheatear, Sopranos, Pokerchip Company 1003's, and a whole crapload of slugged chips.
Well I absolutedly loved feel of the sopranos, and the 1003's. Between the two, I definately like the 1003's, but I don't have the money for a full set of those. So, a compromise was born. I bought 755 10g Sopranos (250 Red, 350 Green, 150 Black, 5 Grey) from Discount Casino Gear (@ 8.5 cents each) and 100 of the 1003's (50 Purple, and 50 Yellow) @ .55 cents each. The plan is eventually fill in w/ a full set of the 1003's, and then use the Sopranos for a cash set.
I got the Soprano's just over a week ago, in time for me to pick-up one of the weekly pots. And the 1003's were delivered yesterday. When I emailed them originally about samples, I told them I was thinking about getting denoms on one side, and something like "Oswego Poker Club" on the other. Well when I got the samples, Lutz had stamped one of them exactly as I described. I played w/ those damn samples for a week, and liked them better than anything else that I'd ordered. And having that logo staring back at me made it tough not to at least order a small number.
Anyway here are some pics of my latest set (there are some non-soprano and non-1003's at the back that are just filling out the rack).

Welcome to the board. You'll be obessessed in no time

Did you ever look at faux clays? Use the search function on here to look for them, you're bound to kick that set out to the street almost immediately, I guarantee it. Plus they're only 6 cents a piece. They can't be hotstamped but they can be labeled. And by the way member HogWild is selling 1050 VINYL labels right now for 59.99. Search for the faux clays, quick!

Re: Pulled the trigger on a new set.

The weight and especially the sound of the 1003's is much nicer than the faux clays. Don't worry -- you've got a great looking set!

Nice looking set you've got now. Enjoy them to the fullest and win some monster pots.

BTW, those pics are so big they brought my work computer to a standstill.

Re: Pulled the trigger on a new set.

Sorry about the size of the pics. I hosted them on Tinypic.com which will usually allow you to shrink the size. Must've done something wrong when I posted them, I'll figure it out before I post anymore pics - nothing worst than having to scroll right to read a thread.

When I ordered the Crown Wheatears, I also order 50 of the 7.5g sopranos and 50 of the Poker Suited poker chips

I understand these are very similar, if not better in look and feel compared to the faux clay. I liked them, but I definately liked the ones I went with a whole lot better. So glad I took some time w/ getting samples.

I don't think I'll be jonesing for a new set for a while, especially since my next project is to build a 10-man Oval Poker table. That should keep me busy for a little while anyway.

Thanks for all the replies.

That'll only keep you busy for a weekend, so you better get your chip creating gloves ready
