Chips: 1,049 | | | Suggestions? Air Travel with 1000 chips... On Monday I will be flying to Columbus, OH with 1000 chips. The flight is only about 1 hour long, so I would like to carry them on, but I do not have any chip cases to carry them in.
Any suggestions on packing them for easy carry on and maximum protection from damage...

Short of a Pelican case, I would put them in chip boxes (provided you have them) and use clothes or some other type of padding to protect them inside a carry-on suitcase. If you don't have chip boxes and/or cases, I would try to put whatever you store them in into a carry-on bag and do the same thing with clothing to pad them as much as possible.
If they are valuable chips you may want to consider buying two 500 chips sets of cheap chips in order to have the cases to travel with - even cheap aluminum cases would probably do well in a carry-on provided you padded them as much as possible.
Sorry, nothing else really comes to mind.

Eric | Also, EXPECT TSA to question what the long sticks are strewn about your bag when it goes under the X-Ray. Your bag WILL be unpacked and inspected.
(actually, I have no idea if it will, but I always try to pack as if my bag will get unpacked)

Chips: 10,807 | | | Re: Suggestions? Air Travel with 1000 chips... If you have access to racks, try to get twenty of them. Put a rack on top of other racked chips and tape together. This will be pretty sturdy. Just pack in carry-on case. If roller wheels, then pack chips towards bottom of case.
TSA will X-ray and since chips are likely clay, they will appear like dark cylinders. When they scratch their heads, just tell them that they are poker chips. They have probably seen them before.
If you do not have racks, then take sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" pinter paper and roll stacks of chips (25) in the paper and tape closed. Place in suit case (follow the roller wheel rule above).
If you intersperse with clothes, you will likely get an examination of suit case by TSA, but just get to airport early. If you are real early, a poker game might break out!

Then again my bag always do get opened becuase most of the time I am traveling with my chef knives. I always find the flyer in my bag. Mind you they are not in the carry on bags.

ps. I fly alot, with alot of chips! | No racks here. If I roll them in paper like you suggested, then put them in a box...like I was going to ship them, do you think they will want to open the box...I have seen people carry on packages all the time...
Eric

Chips: 680 | | | Re: Suggestions? Air Travel with 1000 chips... My guess is that they will still want to see what's in it, because the X-Ray can't. My bags have been searched every time I've flown with chips. |

Chips: 111 | | | Re: Suggestions? Air Travel with 1000 chips... I had chips on a flight about a month ago and the luggage with the chips was opened for inspection. It was the only piece inspected and the only thing that would cause that was the chips. |

Don't seal the box, or bring some tape.

Chips: 1,132 | | | Re: Suggestions? Air Travel with 1000 chips... I would at least wrap them with saran wrap instead of paper. It's more secure, waterproof, and can be seen through. And pack them in a metal chip case inside your travel bag so it's obvious when opened what's inside. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
