My U.S. buddy brought a chip over to show me. He was so proud of his chip set (bought by his wife for his 40th birthday in Vegas) and he knew I liked chips. So with a flourish he produced from his pocket.....
a nasty hot stamped plastic slugged dice chip.
No great surprise really. I'd really like a link to where they sell these exact chips now, and I'm hoping that just by describing it here, one of you clever people will remember that they have seen it somewhere and post a link.
Red chip with three white edge spots spots at 12, 4 and 8 oclock. Non-recessed centre, with a concentric circle defining the centre portion. The bottom of this concentric circle has a white dashes running round it. This one was hot stamped with '5c'.
Anyone know where I could get these from?
And BTW, I don't plan to slag off his chips. Given that he brought over my samurai's for me, that wouldn't be polite. I'm just interested.
Edit : These are VERY like the sporanos chips, except that they have three wide spots instead of three pairs of narrow ones.
I used to play with these about 12 years or so ago. Okay chips from what I remember. I remember it being a big deal when we got all the "quiet money" off the table and started using "real" chips; to be young and naive again.
Actually these are better than dice chips, they don't have a metal insert. They are more like sapranos. I got abbout 700 in a property room auction for $25, I broke them up into 2 sets to give away to winners of my monthly poker league game.
You can pick those up at Gamblers General Store in Las Vegas: http://www.gamblersgeneralstore.com/
Look for POKER CHIPS / 3 SPOT INSERTS / VALUE EMBOSSED
$.45 each for the embossed chips in qty 100
In their store, they've got bins of these -- lots of different colors. But they only seem to list the embossed ones in a few colors on their website
(I think that's where Colquhoun found that picture.)
