Hobby or Habit

Do you consider this thing we do a hobby or a Habit? Once I caught the fever it was tough to stop. There's nothing like getting new chips. It feels as exciting as when Grateful Dead mail order tickets would arrive. After the mailman makes the delivery, I scoot upstairs and can't wait to shuffle the new guys. Will the addiction ever stop, or am I destined to be a local chipper from way back? " I can tell the Queen of diamonds... by the way she shines"

Re: Hobby or Habit

It depends on who you ask. I call it a hobby, my mate calls it a habit - a very bad habit.

Re: Hobby or Habit

A lot of the level of obsession is related to the psychological makeup of the individual. Some people can treat a hobby as a hobby or pastime, others can become very focused on the hobby to a point where it interferes with their work and other life functions. And for the most obsessive, a hobby can progress to a point comparable to an addiction where an individual may even to the extent of theft or embezzlement just to get funds to fuel their interest (people afflicted with bi-polar disorder seem to be more vulnerable to this level of obsession.)

Re: Hobby or Habit

I was mainly just a poker player. The chips were just a tool. I think that is still true but I have 3 different sets now plus samples and I am planning on acquiring another set or two. This site is dangerous for my bank account.

Re: Hobby or Habit

i collected chips from casinos long before i found this site...but this site only made my collection of chips grow...the idea of sample sets just drove me to buy buy buy, but for spending vast amounts of money on chips...meh.... i still use faux clays and am very happy about em

Re: Hobby or Habit

I am voting for Hobby, my wife can't understand it so she says habit. Well now I have enough cheap chips (fauxs) to seat 73 with a T1500 stack.

You know...come to think of it, I could probably squeeze 100 into the garage.....everyone would have to stand up, but it could work.

Any CTer's got any red, green, or black fauxs they want to trade????

PM me!!
