Chips: 6 | | Price vs Quality Ok! So I am a novice.
I was really excited to have ordered and recieved a sample set of Nexgen Lucky Bee's. I was about to order them when I stumbled upon this forum.
Lucky Bees are at the top of my price range (and well above my wifes).
Is there another brand/style that I should be looking at.
I prefer a heavier chip mostly b/c you just "know" they are in you hand.
Thanks in advance for your input |

Chips: 6,850 | | | Re: Price vs Quality I'd suggest reading a lot of the reviews and getting more samples (there's an article here on sample sets). I too don't really like the nexgens. And the faux clays, which are the other cheap chips of choice around here, are too plain for my taste. (There's reviews of them here too.)
Besides the Nevada Jacks that dad604 mentioned (and there are plenty of threads about this deal -- look for "PSO" in the subject line), you might also be able to get a good price on chips in the member-to-member forum. People are often selling off decent chips for very decent prices -- maybe not as cheap as the nexgens, but cheaper than just about any ebay "deal."
Don't make my mistake: I bought 650 nexgens and used them twice. Then I bought the Pharaohs. And wished I had saved that $150 I spent on the nexgens... |

Chips: 501 | | | Re: Price vs Quality I was really close to buying a set of "clay" chips, with some kind of label/inlay/whatever on it, then was really close to getting Nexgens, then I found this site. Found out about all the cool chips, planned for a decent set and faux clays as an interim set. Went right to plain ASM circle square chips, then some Egyptians Chipco ceramics, then ended up with a set of faux clays as a cash set anyway! And now I have a custom ASM order for 1000+ chips...
But for your price range (not sure offhand what Nexgens are these days, but not a lot), I'd probably go with faux clays or Sopranos chips. The NJ ceramics aren't too much, but might be above your budget. But you really should get samples first, to see what you like the most. I've gotten a LOT of samples since last summer, probably 350-400 by now. It's definitely helped me figure out which I like the most.

Chips: 18,645 | | | Re: Price vs Quality If you're gonna put custom labels on them, go with Nexgens. If you want them unlabeled, go with 10g Sopranos -- save some money and get a better chip IMO. Not as heavy but I think you'll like them better after playing with them for a while.
Then save your money for some really nice chips. |

This is exactly what I did. I bought a 1000 set of the 10g sopranos to tide me over for now. They are a decent chip, and cheap (~$.10) for what you get. I currently use them in my monthly 20-24 person tourney and everyone who plays thinks they are fine. This allowed me to satiate my need for some chips, and still begin planning for a great set down the road. |

Chips: 207 | | | Re: Price vs Quality I've got 630 nexgens that I will be putting custom labels with denoms on that I'm very excited about. It will be unlike any other chip and I have the satisfaction of knowing that I had a hand in creating it. The chips along with shipping to AZ wound up costing me less than $90.00 US. You can't beat the price which was my deciding factor. My plan is to use them to win a bunch of home games and eventually save enough to buy a really high end chip like a custom ASM or Paulsons. I have yet to handle the sopranos but they sound like another good, inexpensive starter chip. I'll repeat the other members suggestions of getting a bunch of samples before you make your final choice. Good luck with the decision and welcome to the club |

If it's not in your budget, get some cheap chips to tide you over until you save some money for a nice clay or composite set. |

Buy some cheap ones to play with now and save for the better (real) clay Casino type chips. I suggest some personalized inlays. In the long run the chips will become a family heirloom. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
