Chips: 33 | | | Question for fellow Chipoholics Reading these threads on the amount of money being spent on chips here leads me to believe that most of you are single. Then I read all these post about pissed off wives, so I know that cant be the case. My question to you all: When you've just informed your wife that you finally got your ultimate chip set, and you couldnt possible want another set, how do you go about getting more? I know atleast half of you have been in this exact situation. My wife seems to have a difficult time with understanding the difference between a CASH SET and a TOURNAMENT SET. I seem to have a difficult time trying to make up some reason that I need more, other than the "Im extremely addicted to poker chips and all I want to do is buy more." |

Eventually she gives in realizing that I am going to do what I want anyways....then she goes and buys shoes...
It also helps to spend 3-5x times on a Christmas, Birthday, or Valentines day gift for her...
BTW, this strategy works for Golf Clubs too!!! |

Unfortunately, most women don't consider our hobbies, hobbies.
I've had a few arguements with my misses about hobbies and collecting before, but it all comes down to how much money you can INVEST in a hobby.
I think some people that are getting in trouble, don't have the money to be spending on poker chips...It's kinda like gambling...it becomes an addiction to get more and more! |

Chips: 307 | | | Re: Question for fellow Chipoholics I've been able to jusify an extra purchase or two by telling her that someday I'm going to have to pass chips on to the kids, so you can't just have one set. It would horribly unfair for only one to receive such a fine item upon my demise. I've used up that excuse, but I think she's come to accept my addictive personality(hell I've got over 560 bobblehead dolls in my basement-lol). I guess I'm kind of lucky, but I don't spend a ton. I can tell when she gets mad though. The 500+ cherry stamped Paulsons I just got made her a little hot under the collar. |

Chips: 947 | | | Re: Question for fellow Chipoholics I started selling chips in order to pay for others and have actually made some money as apposed to just spending. The wife is a little less upset about that.
She loves to play Holdem So I let her be part of the decision making process about my new ASM Group buy set. She did not get exactly what she wanted but Neither did I. But I think We are getting a fairly Kick Ass set. |

She was from a gambling family (multiple trips to Vegas) and I told it was my dream to have a small casino set up in the basement. She said that would be cool, and I went and found the 11.5 casino quality chips on ebay for 149.99 plus shipping. I told her these chips were no good for what I wanted to do, so I was allowed to go and buy my paulson pharoahs. I used my winnings from the local home game to finance them, so I didn't spend any family cash on them.
Now I have her handle samples of chips each night, and have her pick her favs based on feel, looks, and sound.
I started collecting small amounts of Dunes and Mirage Springs for two sets, and told her this would be a good investment as there are only so many out there. She didn't get it at first, but I think i have her in the "right frame of mind". | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
