Which would YOU buy and why?

With three new sets on the horizon, Im curious to see what people will be buying.
The HPC/Apache Paulsons..
The Papazoid Paulsons...
The Sidepot Protege Blue Chips....
Make your selection, then feel free to list your reasons and opinions.
The pros and cons of each set (from your point of view) would be helpful.

FIRE AWAY!

Re: Which would YOU buy and why?

I voted for the Sidepot chips just because I like the InPlays but not their logo. This is assuming I like the spot and inlay combos on the Protege chips, which I likely will because there are a ton of great designers around here.

Paulsons-- love the spots, like the denoms without $ signs, like the price at .89 each for 1000 set

don't love the inlays a whole lot, don't like the mold with Paulson Chips written on it

Protege-- love the mold, love the fact that they are a bit different, newer, hopefully will like the price

don't know about colors/inlays yet, Blue Chip is a little light on weight, don't sound as good

Re: Which would YOU buy and why?

This is a tough question. I'll just give you my thoughts on each because there is no clear cut winner at this point.

Apache/HPC Paulsons:
like: - the new edge spots are pretty cool and the design is unique
- with J5 designing the inlay, these are going to look very nice
- these are Paulsons
dislike: - the mold
- colour scheme appears to be a bit on the boring side

Papazoid Paulsons:
like: - new mold is much nicer than the old mold
- shaped inlays kick a$$
- fairly nice colour selection
- no currency symbol gives the chips more flexibility
- once agian, these are Paulsons
dislike: - rather boring uninspired inlay design
- same edge spot pattern throughout set
- no $.25 chip

Sidepot Bluechips:
likes: - we Chiptalkers get to design them
- cigar and snifter mold is the nicest since the TH&C (IMHO)
- huge variety of colours and edge spots will make this set stand out
- eight denoms from which to choose
dislikes: - questionable BC inlays (although they are improving with every new chip)
- light weight
- no one has voted for my chips on the colour discussion thread

At this point I am leaning towards the Papazoid Paulsons just because of the new mold and the shaped inlays. With these chips due out in a few months, I reserve the right to change my mind as many times as I like.

Re: Which would YOU buy and why?

My take:

The Apache chips are nice (they are Paulson after all) but Iid buy Pharaos before I buy them since the inlay is dull and the edgespots don't really work for me.

Papazoid has a lot going for him with shaped inlays and a great new mould. The inlay design will make or break it - it's hard to imagine what the final chips will look like at this stage. When we see them in person I suspect people will either love them or hate them.

Protoge... well I don't know. Too early to tell. I just can not imagine anyone coming up with a bluechip nicer than the Samurais. We'll see I guess. So far my favourite bluechip designs of all time is the Samurai .25 and 1000 chips. No-one has posted edgespots like that on the Protoge thread yet!

So my vote goes to..... PAPAZOID!

Re: Which would YOU buy and why?

Don't care for the edgespots on the Apache chips at all.

The Papazoid edgespots look good, but I've already stated I actually like sets with a single edgespot pattern since I think it provides unity to the set. However, they turn around and slap a different shaped inlay on every chip breaking that unity.

I voted for the chiptalk/BC's even though it's still early in the design process because I'd like to think the set is going to turn out really nice.

The reality is probably none of the above, since only custom ASM's or Chipco's will get me the set I'll really be happy with, but I'll probably at least get a sample set of the BC's.

Re: Which would YOU buy and why?

I would choose Papazoid's because the colors are alright and Paulson chips feel way better to me than blue chips but if you would rather go with a chip with a better design, then go for the sidepot blue chips.

Re: Which would YOU buy and why?

Assuming I have a huge budget, I chose the sidepot blue chips because I prefer a custom design.
