The original Egyptian Octagons are
not representative of most ceramic chips. They are the most-textured of the ceramics out there. I don't know what you received, but see below. If you have some of the later satin-finish Octagons than Ten mentioned, then never mind.
- The regular Chipco round chips have a satin finish -- to me, it's very silky and classy, almost smooth but with a little bit of texture to grab.
- The Nevada Jacks ceramics have much more texture -- more of a linen finish, almost like a fine sandpaper. It's not an unplesant feel at all, just more textured than Chipcos.
- The CasinoTeks (from the few samples I've felt) are in between the Chipcos and NJ's texture.
- Finally, the Octagons have a very cross-hatched surface. I like how they feel, but wouldn't describe them as smooth.
OK, let's go to the replay. Here is an extreme close-up picture I used for a review of the Egyptians some time ago. You can see the standard Chipco finish, and the original Octagon surface below.
And here is a picture comparing the NJ (Desert Sands) and Chipco classic finishes.
