Chips: 164 | | any thoughts on 14 gram A/K chips? I just bought a set (like pulling teeth, from this vendor and will NEVER use them again) and was curios if anyone else had some or used some....I plan on putting some custom labels on them if the centers are recessed enough. So, anyone?
thnks.

I only saw those once a few months ago, though if I remember correctly, putting a label on those is going to be hit or miss, and I would suspect that a conventional paper or poly label from onlinelabel is going to be too thick. The alternative of putting the thinner ripped sheet labels may be questionable at best since the cost is going to be close to the price of a chip, and I don't know if the label will protrude above the surface of the chip edge. There hasn't been much discussion about those chips, but since you have them on the way, you might want to write a review about them after you've received them. I remember them having a hard plastic surface like a dice chip, but the colors were nicer and they did seem to weigh a little more than the 13gr Casino Pros (which are about 12.5 gr.) But like I said, it was a few months ago. Quote: |

Chips: 64 | | | Re: any thoughts on 14 gram A/K chips? I haven't seen/used the 14g A/K chips, but I do have a set of the Tri-Color -12 Stripe 14g "REAL CLAY" chips: http://www.chipsandgames.com/index.a...TS&Category=71
I'd guess the material composition is the same/similar. The chips are quite a step up from the cheap ABS plastic Dice chips (sound/feel/stack better), but they still have a metal insert. And I think 14g is too heavy for a poker chip. But, all in all, they make a good playing set and my friends like them, are impressed. |

Chips: 2,374 | | | Re: any thoughts on 14 gram A/K chips? I've got samples of these chips. The look really nice, but that's about all I like about them. They're hard and slick like typical composite chips. They do sound better than dice chips, but not as nice as compression molded or ceramic.
The one thing that sets them apart is their weight. Unfortunately, that's the thing I dislike most about them. Personally I think that they are just too heavy. It seems like they needed something to set them apart from the other composites on the market, and bumping up the weight was probably the easiest thing to do.
Also, they don't have a recessed center, so they're not the best choice for labeling. And, they tend to have a high price compared to some of the other composites on the market. But, if you like really heavy chips, they do look nice. |

Chips: 94 | | | Re: any thoughts on 14 gram A/K chips? I'm asking for a set of 500 of these for Christmas. I thought they were the best chip in their price range (better than nexgens, faux might be better but they are only one color/no edgespots) that everyone (friends/family) seemed to like the best too.
The centers really arent recessed at all, so I dunno about labels- if I was going for labels I would go with the nexgens or faux clays.
I like their weight... |

Chips: 164 | | Re: any thoughts on 14 gram A/K chips? Ok,
First off. These are 14 gram clay composite from china. 1st impressions are that these are the best looking, sounding stand alone chips I've seen. The increased weight, in my opinion, is neglegible, except that they "feel" better than thier 11.5 gram counter parts. I'm guessing that there is more "composite" material in the chip than most and that also gives them a nicer "feel" however slick. I'd say a perfect mix of what clay and ceramic feel like combined. There is not enough of a recess for labeling, however hotstamping is an option. All in all, for the price ($139 for 650 chips, case, dealer button and playing cards) these are the best chips in thier class.
(not including NEXGENS)

Chips: 94 | | | Re: any thoughts on 14 gram A/K chips? Ditto to the above poster. They really feel like a pretty solid chip, and they dont feel like hard plastic. They sound decent, although faux sound better in my opinion. I also prefer these chips to nexgens, they have better sound, feel, and heft to them than the nexgens do. Also, the nexgens are much more slippery, although they do win in two categories: looks and labelling capabilities. I found 500 14g AK's for $90, which is a pretty nice deal for 500 chips, case, and all accessories, in my opinion. Especially chips of this caliber. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
