Has anybody weighed REAL casino chips?

The reason I ask this is because I was just given some Wynn Casino and "new" Luxor Casino chips....and they seem to be Paulson House mold chips...but they seem MUCH heaftier than the trademarks.....Especially the Luxor chip...it is heavy.

Do they weigh more?

Does anybody have hard evidence that these chips are heavier than the trademark Paulsons?

Re: Has anybody weighed REAL casino chips?

Paulson chips can vary quite a bit in weight depending upon the specifications of the order. There are some TH&C Paulsons from casinos that are in the low 8gr range and others can go into the high 10s.

Re: Has anybody weighed REAL casino chips?

I weighed a set of the President Casino NY chips and found them to be quite hefty, especially the white one which was the heaviest.

Re: Has anybody weighed REAL casino chips?

I weighed a Paulson THC from NYNY on a postal scale (so it came back in oz not g), and it was almost identical to my custom ASM. I forget what it weighed now, but when I converted weight, I think it was 9.something grams.

Re: Has anybody weighed REAL casino chips?

They implanted RFID's into the poker chips. That could add some weight, not sure if it would be significant. Here's an article I found:

Re: Has anybody weighed REAL casino chips?

RFID chips are almost as thin as paper. You'd have to have a pretty good scale to just weigh one, let alone be able to detect a weight difference as the result of one being present. Additionally, they're generally only used in higher value chips (like starting with the $25 or $100 chips), they aren't generally used in the lower value chips that people often take home.

And who's to say that adding an RFID chip doesn't slightly decrease the weight of the chip. It would seem plausible that it would, because the composition of the RFID chip is probably less dense than the composition of the rest of the chip, meaning that the RFID chip itself weighs less than the material it displaced.

Perhaps though, that its displacement is not such that it requires altering the amount of materials going into the base chip, guess we don't know the answer to that one, or do we..... anyone???

Re: Has anybody weighed REAL casino chips?

Chipco chips would probably be better for this kind of comparison since they're more consistent in weight. And the RFID layer in molded into the chip itself during production. So if someone has a scale that is sensitive enough, they could weigh some sample of say $5 and $25 chips from a casino known to use RFID chips. Should probably weigh several of each denomination to get a spread.

Here are some weights I measured a while ago:

I have some of the new Luxors and High Rollers samples. I'll try to weigh them tonight.
