Hi there, first post after salivating over various links and pictures for a few weeks now. Some folks' chips collections are awesome, and don't even get me started on their home table set ups, they take my breath away.

But, here's the question. I appreciate most Chiptalk members will be US, or at least North America based, so won't have much input on this. But surely there must be some poor souls from the other side of the pond in my position?

I'm looking for UK stockists (online presumably) that stock more than the bog standard 11.5g cheap plastic chips. Not that I have anything in particular against them, they are what I use currently but want to upgrade (this site has a lot to answer for, or so says my wife).

So. The best site that I have found is gamble.co.uk, but they don't do up to Paulsons/chipcos in the quality stakes, they do Nexgens and also i think NJs, but I don't fancy them to be honest.

The only other one I've found is Marlow Casino chips (http://poker.marlowcasinochips.com), which does do Paulsons. Is there any others?? If there is only this one they kind of have the market cornered, do they not?

As far as I can see, no US website will be able to deliver chips to the UK for anything approaching a realistic charge, and I gather there would be UK tax to pay on top of that?

Any, I mean any info, much appreciated. At this rate next year's holiday will be to the US with a well concealed hidden agenda...

www.pokerchips.com ships across the pond to the UK, just call them and ask for a shipping quote. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Same problem here (Germany). My search came up with

-www.poker-chips.net (seems to be another website by gamble.co.uk)
-www.pokerchips.nl (have All-In-chipsets)
-www.pokershop.dk (don't have any clays, but 2 injection-molded chips with
no metal insert, called "Poker" and "Holdem" design)

Nothing really amazing... Clay chips for european people...very difficult

The pokershop.dk chips are feeling much smoother/rubberish than dice ones, but compared to NexGens "harder" and not so heavy.
Lacking of edgespots is also an issue... Overall feeling and sound is some way of "elegance" (hard to describe). Center isn't recessed like the NexGens, so labeling
is not so easy.
They ship for free in europe, if order is above EUR 100.

My options i'm thinking about so far:

- NexGens from gamble.co.uk
- "Poker"-design chips from pokershop.dk

really my only suggestion is to take a deep breath and accept that unless you get some chips coming up for sale locally, you will have to have them shipping in, adding tax and UK shipping on the way.

If you know someone travelling back they might be talking into bring the chips back with them for a small consideration, but that would, technically, be smuggling

Get samples of nexgens by all means, gambel.co.uk will let you have some, or I can get some to you if you want, but if you have been here for a while you will want 'proper' chips. Get samples, which aren't that expensive, and then you will know for sure.

Where abouts in the UK are you? Anywhere near the south coast?

Holdem Poker Chips ship to Europe and has reasonable shipping rates.

Generally I don't think any UK or European retailer could make it much cheaper than an American one provided the latter offers economy shipping. You won't get around the VAT anyway exept if you bring the chips from the States yourself and get them through customs unseen.

Michael definitely doesn't charge any more for shipping than he has to, but its still one hell of a lot of cash!

You haven't proper read my post. I'm living in Germany, but there's no difference comparing to UKin the bad "chip situation"...

I have samples of the NexGens and the pokershop.dk injection molded ones.
Comparing these two, the NexGens look much prettier cause of the edgespots.
But the other ones handle with more "elegance" and sound much better.

Sigh... it's as I thought - I thought I'd made a pretty damn thorough search of the internet, was hoping someone had found a hidden gem. I'm in Edinburgh, which is as I'm sure you're aware anything but near to the South Coast unfortunately. Was there a chip reason for being near there?

I'd thought of the getting a friend to bring back stuff from the states, but given the weight allowance, and the fact that most people I know return from the states with 10 times more stuff than they took, this is unlikely.

I'll either have to bite the bullet and buy from Marlow (and risk marital strife if the receipt is ever found) or hang on till a visit to the states...
