Kokopelli's & Tiki's What's difference??

AceHigh Supply is selling the Kokopelli's now for .67 each and the Tiki's for .82 each.
Anyone know the difference in these? I have a sample set of the Tiki's. Are the Kokopelli's the same type of chip or different. If same why the huge price difference. I was interested in buying 400 of the Tiki's but there is a 60$ price diference between Kokopellis. Are Kokopelli's like the cheap plastic chips?
Anyone know?

thanks for the help

Re: Kokopelli's & Tiki's What's difference??

I would be willing to guess it has to do with design. It is interesting that some chipco's with good designs sell for close to a buck per chip. While, others with "bad" designs sell for closer to .66 a chip. I would say a lot of it has to do with the demand or supply of a given Chipco design setting the price. I am guessing that those ceramics are the BR Pro's. (Based on price).

I guess that means if you like an inexpensive Ceramic chip - you have bad tast in chips.

Defnitely not!

The rights to the denom Tiki's were obtained from puzzlemonkey without the benefit of a group buy I believe. Since the koko's group buy is going on right now... till mid-Dec the large diff in price probably reflects that... I don't know the long term availability of these chips but I think Lynbark covers that in the koko's thread.

You can order samples b/f you order if you hurry... they are roughly comparable to NJ's... see Lynbarks comments in the koko's thread in Group Buys.

The chip blanks are the same, just the graphics are different. The reason for the price difference is one is a GB right now.

Re: Kokopelli's & Tiki's What's difference??

There's a discussion in the Kokopelli group buy about a recent change (improvement) to the blank used for the Koko chip. This is part of the reason for the cost difference. The question has been asked about the change including the Tiki's, but hasn't been officially answered yet.

Re: Kokopelli's & Tiki's What's difference??

I am sure Lynbark will answer the question when he gets here. he doesnt come around here during the day anymore.

The koko will not be available after this group buy. Unless of course you contact Lynbark and he has some additional ones made but at that point I believe the price will go up to the .72 or .82 level.

Ace high did create a new mold to being them more inline with chipco and NJ on weight and thickness. I dont know if the new mold is going to be used for the tikis but I would think it would be since the review that CaptLego and JOJO did on the tikis vs the NJ chips gave the tikis bad marks on the weight the thickness. This is why Steve at ace high created the new mold. As for his intensions for using it for the tikis I am not sure. I think it would be a waste of time to create a new mold just for the purpose of the small koko group buy though.

Re: Kokopelli's & Tiki's What's difference??

Perhaps Steve can answer the possibility of the tikis being made in the slightly larger size.

I, too, love the tikis and know how VERY time consuming doing that level of detailed design can be. I was actually going to buy my next set of tikis, before I began developing the kokos. I know they are not for everyone, as they were intended to be somewhat unique.

The Kokopelli price is currently much better because:
(1)MAIN reason: the Group buy volume has created a discount
(2)secondary reason: the new mold AceHigh is using is actually less expensive for them to produce (again, I can't explain this as I am not involved in anything other than design & negotiations)

By offering the group buy, I am able to get my own set of chips for about $.15-$.20 cheaper, and will retain exclusive rights for these... they will not be sold by AceHigh at all after Dec 14.

I just got the new mold samples in today, 10 chips... They stack about 1/2 chip higher when compared to 10 of the previous mold. Although 1 chip is tough to distinguish in weight, the entire stack is now obviously heavier in comparison.
IMO, this new mold, along with the cheaper price, makes the new BR Pros big winners.

Re: Kokopelli's & Tiki's What's difference??

I posted this over in Group Discussion, but will copy here as well:

"
Just got my samples in today- Very Nice Chips!

I got a sample of the Kokos (new) and of the Tikis (old).

With only 5 chips, the stacking height difference is small.

I weighed the chips on my golf swingweight device (not the most accurate for chip-weighing)-
5 Tikis barely over 45g
5 Kokos barely over 50g
Definate difference.

Another very noticeble difference- the little mold spot on the edge of Tikis was easily spotted with a quick look at the edge of each chip.
On the Kokos- much more difficult to spot.

Shuffle well. Feel good. Textured face, smooth edge.
My color-blind brother had a tough time telling the 5 and the 1000 apart. But that's what the denoms are there for!

Great job Lynbark! and Ace High! "

Re: Kokopelli's & Tiki's What's difference??

Lynbark just directed me to this thread.

To clear up confusion - all BR Pros will be using the new mold. Since the Tikis are relatively new, we have contacted all customers that have ordered sets and will make available Tikis from the old mold if they wanted to add chips to their sets.

There were a few sample sets of Tikis that shipped this week that were previous stock of the old mold. This seems to be what KudzuKing received. We apologize for the confusion this may have caused.

While we will not be adding the Tikis to the Kokopelli group buy (sorry), we may have a short sale for ChipTalk members only - using a coupon code. We do have a paid forum in the Marketplace, so I will start posts in there soon. I have been trying not to post in the regular forums much and just let others answer questions, which has worked pretty well.

Re: Kokopelli's & Tiki's What's difference??

Thanks everyone for the help. I emailed Steve at AceHigh about the new mold on the Tiki's. He said it will be used. (I am assuming "Sirpsycho" is Steve or someone from AceHigh)

I just ordered a sample set of the new mold tiki's and kokopelli's to check them out before I order my set for xmas. Happy to hear they made them a little thicker and heavier, that was the one thing that bothered me about them because I loved Puzzmonkeys design.
Thanks again everyone!!
