Chips: 928 | | | Robbing Peter to pay...Paulson? The chip addiction has led to me selling off parts of earlier hobbies to pay for this one. Shifting my resources to match my current interest isnt new to me, I've sold early Colts and pre 64 Winchesters for old infil planes and Bedrocks (woodworking plane made by Stanley). The Bedrocks and Infils gave way to various custom knives with a focus on Randall Made knives. Alas, now the Randalls are being turned into chips. Fortunately, having picked quality things in which to sink my entertainment dollars, I've come out ahead or at least even on every one of my hobby 'color ups'. Given the current market for Randalls, I expect this to continue the trend of coming out ahead on the change over. Still, it seems funny to me that I often sell one hobby to pay for another.
So what creative ways have you discovered to fund your chip habbit? |

To think it all started from the 10 free dollars that pacific gave me blows my mind. I never actually invested any of my own money online. Although as a result I've never been able to build the bankroll high enough to feel comfortable playing at a higher level.
Although if you ever got desperate enough you might be able to find away to use items from your old hobbies to get your hands on some items of your new hobby.

- started playing the freeroll tournaments online at Pokerroom.
- Made up to $250.
- Entered the $25 buyin cashgame and after 6 months, made about 1500
- Moved up the ladder to $100 buyin, made another $2000 in about 1.5 months
- Moved up the ladder to $300 buyin, now playing ive table in Atlantic City. Made about $2000
- Got busted down from the $2000 to $900
- Went back online and switched over to Tournament.
- Won 1 tournament worth $1500 and place 2nd in 1 for $800
and they lived happily ever after. Oh right, i used some of the money to buy my custom chips |

Unfortunatly motorcycles are my first love and with prices going up I had to sell off my other collections.
I will never sell off my motorcycle stuff for chips. I SWEAR!!!!!!!!
I have a bunch of Stanley planes where would I look to find the values on them? |

As a matter of fact, I'm nudging closer and closer to selling off some of my chip sets to help with the purchase of a motorcycle after Christmas. I'm keeping just my finest set and packing it in a box just the right size to fit in a saddlebag...
Ahhh....

Chips: 500 | | | Re: Robbing Peter to pay...Paulson? I still have most of the stuff left over from my previous addictions and activities (hockey gear, golf clubs, road bike, fishtank, Xbox, etc) and will not sell it off to cover the cost of some new chips. It just goes into the closet until it is needed again (except the fishtank, it is still occupied).

I've never been able to, nor wanted to, completely divorce myself of some earlier loves, but purging the mob down to fund a new thrill is cathartic and space saving! Now I have only my true favorite firearms, a quality set of planes that I actually use, and the Randalls that I actually carry when going camping/hunting/fishing. Hmm... I see you listed golf clubs...now I wonder do I really need 3 sets of them myself...
And despite any whim or whimsy, no one is touching my Harley no matter how much I may or may not be riding it at any given time. Failing to comply with this may result in me sharing various aspects of earlier hobbies in less than socially approprate ways |

Chips: 840 | | | Re: Robbing Peter to pay...Paulson? When it comes to buying a few samples, some racks, a case, cheapo-chip set or whatever, I just use my discretionary money.
All of my real chip sets have been directly correlated with winning an online tournament.
$30 buy MTT, 1st place = $5,300 = 1,200 Pharoah's + paint the whole house + trip to vegas
$50 buy in MTT, 2nd place = $4,150 = 600 Paulson Vineyards + refinish all the hardwood floors in the house + 2 ceiling fans and 2 new light fixtures
$20 buy in MTT, 1st place = $1,450 = 700 Bud Jones Maxamillions + some miscellaneous chips
Of course I've built other sets over time (my 900 crystal parks, for example), but there's nothing like a big win to make you feel like blowing a big chunk of change on something you want. . .

Chips: 141 | | | Re: Robbing Peter to pay...Paulson? I've gotten a 460-chip cash game set, a 600-chip tourney set, three setups of cards, a high-end LCD monitor, four poker books, and both versions of pokertracker out of online poker winnings/bonuses.
This is all despite the fact that I'm not very good. There's a lot of money out there.
Also, as Peter, I don't recommending robbing Peter to pay Paulson. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
