Last saturday I had people over for a Halloween party and we decided to play poker. Everyone was impressed with my chip collection and we decided to use my Pharaohs. We usually play NLHE with .25 SB and .50 BB with a spread limit of .50 to $5. People buy in for $20 and rebuy as needed. My set contains 200 Blue NCV, 200 White $1, and 100 $5. I had to attend to other guests so I made my brother the accountant with a MBA the bank. I buy into the game later and find the following
Blue NCV = 0.25
White $1 = 0.50
Red $5 = 1.00
I was so upset that I didn't win one hand and kept doing shots of vodka.

You mean your chips actually have printed denominations and they reassigned them to something else????

I would have stopped the game and sent everyone home. That's just dumb.

I'm NOT a huge proponent of standard colors for chips, but for crying out loud, if they have a freakin' number on the chip, use it!

I think I would have been right there in the vodka with you.

Now that made me laugh!

I actually had a barbeque this summer where some of my friends decided to haul out my 10-man table, 2 decks of KEM's, the laptop with tournament director, and . . .

you guessed it - my old DICE chips, which were sitting right next to my 1,200 pharoahs and by 600 WSOP 2004 replicas. i almost threw up.

upside - one of them bought the dice chips from me later that night! $50 for 1,000 chips + racks.

guess it takes more than an MBA to know how to use poker chips. . .

Next time, you might want to find the person who has the Hotel & Restaurant Mgmt or Casino Operations degree from UNLV instead.

I think I just threw up in my mouth. Ahem, this reminds me when we would be playing with my copags and people said we should play with the used casino or bee cards that I had. I didn't cave though. "The cards wouldn't be too slippery if you knew how to actually shuffle cards."

Ah! But therein lies the rub
Many people, especially a lot of the online players, don't know how to shuffle cards, and many long time players can be a little rough in shuffling cards (which is when those used casino cards become quite handy ... and expendable ) It's for that same reason that I always have 2-4 decks of Bicycle/Bee cards available in addition to the KEMs or Copags. If it looks like a rough crowd, the paper cards are very cheap insurance.
