Angry No more Faux Clays?

Oh great!
I finally start to figure out how to design a chip label in the Gimp ( I'm on a TIGHT budget). And now I hear that the one chip it seems all agree is THE 9g chip to label is going away before I can raise the cash to buy them!
What else is out there? I'm trying to avoid Nexgen (don't want the insert). I'd like someting that has the recess for the label. For what I'm trying to do a no edgespots chip seems best too.
Oh! And did I mention my budget is TIGHT? As in all I've been able to afford so far are 7.2g Wal-mart (not bad really), and some truly atrocious freebies my wife won online from Pokernow. bought a roll of Dice for samples - use them to throw at the cat, and the best I have are the 50 Bicycle "Pro" 8g!
Around here that's about it for chips - hell the only plastic cards I can get locally are those fake $100 bills ( which perversely feel the best of all the cards I own). You guys got me started - now you have to help me out!

Re: No more Faux Clays?

i bought 40 samples last year, and thought they were okay. they're weighted well, and sound good. they stack and shuffle alright, but worlds ahead of dice. i decided to buy a set when my brother decided to get married in costa rica. i don't feel like dealing with pharaoh's on that sort of trip. too stressfull to worry about my babies.

so i bought 800...

and yes, KY, they're on sale. but with tax and shipping to chicago, 800 came out to $62

Okay.

Looks like the price went up to 6 cents...it was 5 cents a few days ago. That may be a deal breaker

Re: No more Faux Clays?

5Star had a 10% off promo going over the weekend. Actually the price would have been 10% off of the 6¢ price or 5.4¢, so they rounded it off to 5¢ on the web site. The fine print on their discount promos is usually on the bottom of the page in not so fine print that is quite readable. In practice it would have been 10% off of your entire order and the chips would actually have been billed at 6¢ with the 10% taken off of your subtotal before shipping (and taxes if applicable)

Re: No more Faux Clays?

Ok guys, the wife just told me we have to get DSL first!

fyi we're on a home net with a dialup internet connection - I built the computers
from fleamarket scraps. I told you the budget was tight!
The real question was - What're alternatives once the faux go?
Gonna be awhile before I can buy ANYTHING, and then it'll have to be cheap.
I'll post my label Idea in the custom chip forum so you all can critique it - once I
figure out where Gimp hid it! lol

Re: No more Faux Clays?

Since you claim to be impoverished, might I suggest that you stick with the Bicycle chips for the time being? Labels are not a good idea for faux clays for any kind of extensive usage, I think you're going to be very disappointed when the labels start to wear from rubbing against each other. If finances are tight, you might have to do a reality check and understand that there may be other necessities that need to be fulfilled, and gaming chips are not really a top priority (even for many on this forum) if there are more pressing needs for your budget dollars.
