Chips: 524 | | | Spinners What causes spinners? Is this a sign that the chips are of poor quality? Which chip and type of chip are know to have this problem? I dont have my own set yet but I do have a bunch of samples and I have noticed that some of the ceramics contain spinners yet none of the clays do. |

Jim Blanchard from ASM made a post here recently suggesting that this can be the result of the chips being stored in a high heat environment (such as inside of a car on a summer day.) Since chips are primarily composed of plastic, one should keep in mind that many plastics can and will distort under heat. Blue Chips with non-recessed centers have ALOT of spinners but I think the cheap Chinese plastic chips with metal inserts are the worst! Cheap chips are usually either cupped or they have edgespots that are thicker than the rest of the chip. That, often in combination with being really slick, makes them more or less impossible to stack. |

Not sure of the Chinese chips, actually I've seldom heard of spinners from those, there's already plenty of other things wrong with them just from the lack of quality control. Quote: |

I would also argue that slug chips are more consistent in shape and weight than the highest dollar clay or ceramics.

I had to buy a set of 11,5 gram suited chips with metal inserts once because I had nothing to play with for a while. About 60% were spinners. A stack would wobble because the chips were not flat. And when I say they were spinners it's not because they were slick. A chip will not spin for 2+ seconds just because it's slick.

No. A stack of 11,5 gram chips will wobble because the chips are not flat. And they spin like crazy. You can spin the ones that are not flat for more than 2 seconds but you can not really spin the ones that are resonably flat. A chip will not do 20-30 revolutions in 2+ seconds just because it's slick.
You can also grab a stack and spin half of it on top of the other half
