Chips: 1,071 | | | Re: why do Casinos use Chipco Caesars IN uses Chipco chips - I play there often enough and a lot this week and next because of the WSOP Circuit events - anyway the chips there are a little worn, but they get a ton of play. I really like playing with Chipcos there and that is why I got them for my home games.
I have never been to Vegas, but I have played in 4 casinos in the Midwest that have Paulson Chips (Belterra, Aztar, Trump Indiana, and Harrahs St Louis) - every casino had dirty, sticky and worn Paulson HnC chips. I really dislike them.
I have been told - that in a Casino the clay chips will get worn and dirty, but they will still last longer than Chipcos. The Chipcos can be easily cleaned - I can say from my experience I would much rather handle, shuffle and play with clean slightly worn graphics on ceramic Chipcos - than sticky dirty clay chips.
That said, I want a set of clay chips for my home games. Mine will not get as dirty or gross since they will get no where near 1/1000 the use they would get at a Casino. |

Chips: 101 | | | Re: why do Casinos use Chipco Why not. I don't think it would be a good idea if all casino use Paulson. We need competition. |

Chips: 1,142 | | | Re: why do Casinos use Chipco the grand inlay (1 inch) oviously does not cover the entire chip, so the encarving (hat and cane) will collect alot of dust over time, but the Giant inlay provides a very glossy surface, covering nearly the whole chip, that tends to repel these dirt. I have not seen any paulson chips with giant inlays that have collected any serious dirt.
that being said, competition is great, but i am simply speaking from the casinos perspective. Why would they choose chipco over paulson |

Chips: 135 | | | Re: why do Casinos use Chipco My guess is Chipcos are cheaper. They are the least expensive choice that combine quality and security. Security is most important, but they are concerned about bottom line. Most casinos could care less if Paulsons are better than Chipcos, and I doubt the average casino customer could tell difference. Chipco also probably has an aggressive sales force that points all these wonderful things out.
You guys should consider interviewing a casino manager who can comment on these things assuming they don't give away any trade secrets. |

Chips: 1,142 | | | Re: why do Casinos use Chipco At first, cost was my guess, but now im not so sure. Considering how fast they wear under heavy casino use, my guess is, they must be replaced alot more often.
And im not so sure if security is the reason either. When u look at a badly worn chip, i cant see any security appeal to it.
I just really dont see any reason why chipcos are used when the paulson giant inlays provide everything and more. Now with Budjones, at least they offer something that chipcos or clay does not. And that is, they reduce the noise level, and maintains very clean and durable.
Hopefully someone here knows. |

Chips: 1,728 | | | Re: why do Casinos use Chipco They probably actually cost about the same or are pretty competitively priced. While the graphics may start to wear a bit, it's usually just around the edge, so that the graphic in the middle remains visible. Security isn't an issue on the higher value chips as the RFID wafer is imbeded into a layer in the chip. Casinos do tend to stay with one vendor to maintain some degree of continuity with their existing racks, unless they're replacing the entire house rack. I don't think the Chipcos have a shorter lifespan in a casino setting than any of the other chips, otherwise there wouldn't be so many casinos using them. In a home setting it's pretty much an irrelevant issue as either will last a lifetime.
I'd think that the answer to your question may simply be because they do have a choice, whether it be Paulson, Chipco, Bud Jones, B&G, Blue Chip, ASM, TR King, or RT Plastics. Though cost may be a factor for some of the smaller casinos, I'd think these days it is reliability in availabilty, price, and security measures, as well as relationships that may have been formed between the casino and chip manufacturer. Chips: 9,309 | | | Re: why do Casinos use Chipco How do we know that clay chips outlast ceramics? Ceramics can be very durable, something that is not generally said about clay.
