Pharoahs vs JB Paulsons

I just bought 500 pharoahs i've been reading that the JB Paulsons sound and feel more like the originals and are a better chip overall. I know everyone has their own personal tastes but is there really any difference? I didn't buy samples which might have been a mistake but i couldn't wait.

Also, any word on future inlays for the Paulsons and the mold designs?
Thanks, Jaeden

Re: Pharoahs vs JB Paulsons

They are the same chip. I've got both. Only difference is the better inlay on the pharaohs. (Though the mold is uglier on the pharaohs unfortunately)

I thought the molds were the same?

Re: Pharoahs vs JB Paulsons

they are essentially the same, except on the JBs, the inlay area extends further out from the center towards the edge so that the wording 'paulson chips' is centered in the non-inlay area. On the Pharaohs, they reduced/filled in the inlay area to where it meets the label, but didn't move the wording, so it remains where it was on the JB chips, which means its no longer centered on the non-inlay area. They should have moved the words in a bit to center them. Its not really a big deal to me, I like them both but they could have done better with this 'new' mold. They ARE the same as the Trademark paulsons though. The JB seems to be the only one around with its mold.

Re: Pharoahs vs JB Paulsons

I like the inlay of the JB over the Pharohs. However, I'd take the old hat and cane JB mold anyday over the Pharohs/traditional mold. The new JB mold sucks.

Not totally relevant here but i thought it was worth mentioning that fivestardeal has the trademarks for 89 cents a piece.

The classic JBs are "classic", 2005 JBs have that awkward space around the inlay (which would be great for labels) Pharoahs and Trademarks the mold goes to the inlay, but there's too much space between the lettering/HC logo and the inlay. However, I feel that gives them a little more heft. although, a couple of concentric circles would definitely balance it quite nicely...

So, yeah there is a difference between molds w/ pharos and JBs - both do have slight drawbacks. The classic JBs have no drawbacks.

I think the color combos on those are dark & ugly. I much prefer the 2005 version

Same here. Here's how I see them:

Mold: JB Classic > Pharaohs > JB2005
Colors/Edge Spots: JB 2005 = Pharaohs >> JB Classic
Inlays: JB 2005 > JB Classic > Pharaohs

I am very happy w/ my JB2005s, but too bad I couldn't choose JB 2005s w/ the classic mold...
