Chips: 203 | | | 1000 chips - 6 colors - How should I split them up? So my NEXGEN (series 8000) samples came and I love the chips and was wondering how I should split up 1000 chips? I'll be getting 6 colors because I don't like the green - and it seems like they always have manufacturing problems with them. I usually either play a sit n go tourny style with 1 table or just like a game with 3 or 4 of my best buddies. Anyone recommend me a chip split? They won't have any denominations on them at the moment, so for the time being we'll be setting that up ourselves. Thanks for all the suggestions: I'll be readin through past threads, but was wondering if anything changed that people like.
edit: just to clarify colors are: white, red, blue, black, yellow, purple (probably in that order of low to high)
edit2: i don't know what to do lol - in terms of not having the 7th color (green) because the denoms seem to be sort of out of place then - i don't know - anyone else not care about the greens? and just be fine with them?

If you intend to leave the chips as NCV (no denoms) then I'd suggest that 6 ( or 7)colours is also too many.
A typical 500 tourney set for 8 people with 1000T starting stack might have a breakdown like 200 5's (normally red), 200 25's (normally green), 50 100's (normally black and 50 500's (normally purple).
If you leave them ncv and play small stakes cash games then this breakdown will work perfectly well with the 5 meaning 5 cents etc.
TBH I'd save the money on the other 500 and get some new cards instead.
BTW, I have a lot of green nexgens and I don't have a problem with them at all. |

Chips: 1,997 | | | Re: 1000 chips - 6 colors - How should I split them up? I would do:
200 White 25c, 150 Blue $1, 50 Red $5 for cash games
300 Black $100, 200 Purple $500, 100 Yellow $1000
Would force you to play probably T10,000 sngs but I like T10ks and if you don't like the green, don't use it. |

the follow up question would be about how many colors would i get then? | You may have already seen this information, but i'd suggest checking this site out. it has loads of info on the number of chips you need, breakdowns etc. its VERY biased towards tourneys, so if you must have a denominated cash set, you'll need to bear that in mind. http://www.homepokertourney.com/chips_needed.htm |

Chips: 1,997 | | | Re: 1000 chips - 6 colors - How should I split them up? I would say a 10 man game can be supported by 500 chips for sure. I like to start players out, be it in a tournament or a cash game, with 25-30 chips. This seems like it is not too many, but enough to make two stacks, or do tricks with, not that that is important. But if 10 guys start out with 30 chips, you have 200 chips left (which should be bigger denominations) to give out as rebuys, and then they can make change with people. Example:
One guy has about 80 white 25c chips in a 50c/$1 cash game after his dadgum Jack-Seven gutshot straightdraw outdrew the set you flopped with your pocket aces! You rebuy for, gee, I don't know, $40, so you pick up ten $1 chips, and 6 $5 chips. You hand Mr. Chase-to-the-River a $5 chip and he hands you twenty 25c chips, and you go back to your game, win the rest of the 25c chips you lost to him, the $5 chip you gave him, and every other one of the chips you painstakingly researched, ordered samples of, consulted fellow Chiptalkers about, and ultimately, bought, which he has earned by gleefully chasing six-high flush draws and catching a fortuitous fourth deuce on the river THAT HE HAS, and also his kid's college fund, dignity, respect, left arm, mortgage, car keys, pocket lint, smile, soul, and wife. Then you ask him if he likes your new NexGens and suggest he read a poker book, there's freakin a hundred and fifty of em at Borders for Brunson's sake. Some times poker makes me angry. But I still love chips. |

Chips: 17,166 | | | Re: 1000 chips - 6 colors - How should I split them up? i concur that 500 is lots for a 10 man tourny.
my pharaoh Breakdown, in which the reds overlap into the cash game set uses more, though. here tis:
cash game chips:
100 whites
350 blues
200 reds
tourny set:
200 reds
225 greens
200 blacks
50 purples (haven't had to use them for single tables, though)
with that BD, we do:
20 red
20 green
4 black...
to start. that's t1000. we could do more to start, but it's a nice big stack. we color up the reds after 3 or 4 levels (i forget right now) and color up the greens after another 4 or 5.
so i use more than 500, but you don't need to, by a long shot. i recommend you find caplego's breakdown spreadsheet for ideas. |

Chips: 5,839 | | | Re: 1000 chips - 6 colors - How should I split them up? Here's a link to a spreadsheet I created along with some possible blind schedules and chip counts. For a typical home tourney, 3 or 4 colors should be sufficient for 10-12 folks. If you do rebuys/addons, a 5th color might be useful but definitely not necessary. For a cash game, 2 or 3 should be sufficient depending on stakes and type (limit vs PL/NL).
