Chips: 64 | | | Desert Sands for Low-Denom Set? I'm thinking about building a low-denomination cash set with NJ Desert Sand chips. However, we normally play $0.25/$0.50 Limit Holdem with $0.10 as small blinds, $0.25 as BB (I know, we're cheap). I really like the NJ DS set and the price is right, but DS's only come with $0.25 as lowest denomination so I'm not sure how we'd cover the SBs. I know Chipco has some $0.05 and $0.10 chips, but they are pricier (and I feel a little funny spending $1.10 on a $0.05 chip!).
How do you handle these small blinds? See any issues with (1) not posting a SB, or (2) posting same as BB? I realize I could use an undenominated cheap chip for the $0.10 or $0.05, but this sort of defeats the purpose of spending $ for good chips, in my opinion. |

Now we double the chips when we start and get $10 in chips so we can afford 25/50. But 25/25 works fine. |

Quite honestly for a limit game, the only chips that you would need would be in 25¢ denominations (or if you have mulitiple colors and need to make do, value them all at a quarter.) Since you're just play for quarters, I wouldn't even bother with a little blind just make them both big blinds. Alternatively, you could start with a bunch of dime chips and play .20/.40 and you could evenly divide the small and big blinds.
Realistically, you're already pressed getting anything other than a Chinese import if you want to keep the cost of the chip below the denomination cost. But if you want to use the higher priced chips, that's fine, but I'd probably just use quarter chips for the whole table (it's also what they would do in a casino or cardroom with a limit game.)
If you're still intent on buying Chipco or other casino quality chips for nickels and dimes, check out the Vintage Auto series at http://www.holdempokerchips.com/products.asp?cat=32 , at least Michael has available at a good price. Quote: |

Chips: 501 | | | Re: Desert Sands for Low-Denom Set? I actually emailed NJ about something like this earlier this week. I asked about having a "custom" Desert Sands chip made, using the orange chip but with a different denom - like 5¢ or $5000. They said it was no problem at all, it would be $0.95 per chip (normal custom price), and a 200 minimum order. I want to get some myself for a low stakes cash game set, but I'm going to be filling out my Egyptians set and buying a Samurai Palace set first.
Might be the best way to go, if you want to keep the chips all looking the same.

Chips: 0 | | | Re: Desert Sands for Low-Denom Set? Maybe just use he $1 chip as your 10 cent chip, that way if you ever increase the game it works with higher denoms also.
Or just make both blinds .25 as someone previously said. |

If your not set on desert sands, use some of the cheaper chips you can get at "five star" like the coin insert chips very resonable for playing low stakes games why pay top dollar for a very low stakes game, get some samples and save a bunch of cash! Then you can save for your dream chip ! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
