Chips: 84 | | | Mixing NCVs and Denoms??? Im officially sold on the Pharaohs. I have 50 .25 pieces and 50 $1 coming to me now (member to member) so the start of the set begins. Anyways, My friends and I play 25/50c blinds in a $10 game. So these pieces are fine. But, i would like to incorporate at least 1 other color in and maybe 2. Is it a bad idea to buy some red and or black NCVs to get along with this set? If im going to do that should i just go with all NCVs? What are you chip gurus thoughts? |

Chips: 111 | | | I would rather have all denom or NCV but the way you want, at least they are the same chips so it is not that bad. |

Chips: 5,848 | | | I'm not a big fan on non-denoms in cash sets but for tournies, I use 1 non-denom as my high value chip. My denoms are 5, 25, 100, 500 and I have a yellow chip (same manuf.) that's non-denom that can be anywhere between 1000-2500. |

But i wouldn't like it much for cash games. |

Chips: 2,131 | | | For your current level of cash game, you should be getting more 25˘ and $1 chips, IMHO. For a cash game, play proceeds more smoothly if you have plenty of the lowest denoms--enough so that only one or two denoms need to be in play. Plus everyone loves building those huge chip stacks. For instance, I have 450 $25 chips that I use as my 25˘ chip, and give everyone 40 of them for their first $10 of buy-in money. Additional funds get exchanged for $100 (used for $1) chips.
But maybe you want higher denoms to allow more cash in play without having to buy a whole bunch of chips (at the expense of more changemaking). Then I would get red $5 denominated. This set could be used for a T25 tournament, with starting blinds 25˘/50˘. You could possibly get some yellow non-denominated to serve as some other value if needed. Don't use the more common red, green, black, or purple as your non-denom, because you may want to get these colors in denoms later when you add to your set. |

Chips: 1,581 | | | I voted for "Doesn't matter" only because, as hachkc wrote, mixing in one non denom into a tournament set isnt that big of a deal. But...if you were talking about mixing .25 denom and making a non denom .25, that might be a little funny.
Just my 2 bits. |

Chips: 1,700 | | | This is officially in the "whatever floats your boat" category. I don' t think it matter one way or the other, especially at low stakes. |

Chips: 502 | | | I voted yes. I only add 1 NCV chip in play with a full denom set. It's real easy to only have to remember the value of 1 chip. |

Chips: 1,845 | | | Yeah, this is a whatever works for you thing I think. I have some of the blue NCVs as kind of a flex chip. Originally I was going to use them as $5000's, but then I got some plaques. For now I'm going to keep them to still use as 5000s when I have a big T10,000 game and I don't have enough plaques.
I also bought some NCV green, black, and purple. Just 10 of each and I sprinkled them into my denom setup. Just a little something different. |

Chips: 1,035 | | | firstly, to answer your poll; having seen casinos w/ mixed bankrolls of chips, I don't even feel the need to play w/ the same chip type. I do, however, see the merits of a nicely matched set.
Since you seem to have your cash game worked out:
perhaps adding a red and a green NCV set for tournaments would give the luxury of: using your red as 5s when playing a cash game (you are a little limited w/ 50 pieces) Or, running a main tourney w/ a cash game on the side for early bust-outs.
If your chips are all pharoahs, I don't see any conflict w/ having certain colors denoms and certain NCVs. (Idon't see conflict w/ mixing NCVs w/ denoms within color either) | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
