I would have no problem mixing them for a large tourney. . . it's the unmixing afterwards that would be a PITA.

i would try to keep one type per table and cash up to one of the two sets when you get down to the final table

I did this for a 21 person tournament the other night. More people showed than were expected and I ended up using both sets worth of green and black. People thought the faux clay were the "real" chips. And yes, it was a pain separating them after.

The one type per table idea occurred to me also. With a little advance warning it may have worked.

I have this problem, my tourneys were getting bigger, and my chip addiction set in - next thing you know I have 5000+ diamond chips, 1100+ nexgens and chipcos for cash games.

Oh and 500 9 gram super diamonds as well to go with my 400 or so Marlboro chips.

Because mixing sets would be a crime
