Chips: 12,507 | | | Really stupid question about stacking racks full of chips I know that plastic slugged chips are practically indestructible, but has anyone ever encountered problems with ceramic or clay chips being damaged or negatively impacted as a result of their being stored in stacked chip trays?
I have been looking at the various reviews and/or pictures showing five chip racks stacked one on-top of the other and was wondering if the weight of all those chips focused along the narrow point of contact with the chips edge might have any negative effects on the bottom rows of chips, especially considering how the underside of a chip rack is not really contoured to spread the weight from stacking over the surface of chips.
Dumb question I know, but was still wondering.

Chips: 1,728 | | | Re: Really stupid question about stacking racks full of chip Chip racks have been used in casinos to store chips that are not in use for decades and they're often stacked more than 5 high. If there were a problem, the practice would have probably ceased many years ago. You should also be aware that the weight is distributed across the edges of 100 chips, not just a few, so that pressure on any individual chip is probably minimal. Quote: |

Chips: 48 | | | If you're really concerned, why not buy racks with covers? This would alleviate any issues.

Chips: 1,728 | | Speaking of covers, if you happen to run short of covers, just take an empty rack and invert it to use as a cover to protect your top rack. Can't take credit for that one, just happen to see them doing it at one of the local cardrooms. Quote: |

They don't interlock, but they do nest to a degree.
The racks alone won't nest bottom-to-bottom. So if you use a second rack as a cover (upside-down), the next rack on top won't nest. There's nothing to grip. |

Chips: 2,131 | | The only stupid question is the one that never gets asked. I respect people who ask questions about anything and everything: it shows they are thinking, and also shows they are not afraid to admit ignorance. Assume nothing, question everything, and trust no one. * cue "X-Files" theme music * |
