What is the approximate weight sizes for chips in casinos? The reason I ask is because I have noticed that quite a number of composite chips claim that their chips are casino weight and quality at 11.5 grams, yet expensive chips like Paulsons and Chipco chips are around 9.3 to 10.5 grams per chip.

Well according to all of my research......THE OFFICIAL weight is 11.5g, if you don't believe me just ask anybody on ebay. They never lie!

9-10g is standard. Paulson, the benchmark chip for years is (usually) 10g. 11.5g has really only been around since the poker craze created the demand for cheap chips and the slug centered plastics have flooded the market. When I first became interested in cheques about 10 years ago you hardly saw any 11.5g chips, 8-10g was the range.

hmmm... Why would they do that ? Those lieing Bastards!
Actually there is no such thing as official weight. Like one of the other posts said it usually is between 8 to 10 g but the coin inlay ones run heavier.
There's no official weight. Weight depends on the type of chips the casinos are using. Bud Jones chips can weigh 11.5 grams, coin inlays could be even heavier. Paulson chips are around 9 grams while ChipCo and B&G ceramic chips are around 10.5 grams.
11.5 gram is the only 'official' weight because that is what the Chinese merchants and eBay scammers (often one in the same) have declared them to be.
No one told the casinos though. The weights of casino chips vary from casino to casino (not because of quality control issues, but rather because they are formulated that way for security reasons). They can be anywhere from <9 to about 10.5 grams, except the casinos that use Bud Jones V7 where they'll weigh around 12 grams. Additionally, the weights will also vary with use and age as they erode away. I know of one cardroom that has some Paulsons that are so worn, they probably weigh around 7.5 grams by now if not less.
