"To Denom or not to Denom"

I'm struggling with my decision to put denoms on my chips or not. I'm not a big fan of denoms on chips, but I think it might make life easier during a game. Every hand someone will probably ask so what is the green chip worth or what is this chip worth. The chips would be used for tourney use only. so denoms would be something like:
$1 , $5, $25, $100, $500

So what's your opinion?

I could go either way. I have used non-denoms very often and have had little to no trouble with people remembering chip value. Non-denoms are more flexible. I think it really comes down to personal preference.

I like having the demons on the chips to me it feels more "casino" like and it does help stop the annoying "how much were those purple chips again?" question every 20 mins.

I have two large sets, neither have denominations. I do suffer a lot of "what's this color chip worth" questions at the startup of my tournaments which usually have between 32 and 40 players, but that is over by the end of the first blind round. I've also started posting chip denomination values on the walls in my basement while we are playing which reduced the questions to virtually nil. That said, I'm going to have denoms on my next set so I don't have to mess with this at all.

The only value I see in having non-denom chips is that you can assign them different ways for different types of games, if you don't have that problem and always know what type of game you'll be playing and for what stakes, I'd go denom.

thx for replying so quick with your opinions and some great insight.
Maybe it will come down to how label looks with denoms or without

Originally I was completely convinced that non-denoms were the way to go. In my group we use chepo 11.5g non-denom of white/red/green/black for .25/.50/1.00/5.00. We keep the 'vegas' order of the chips and just set it to the values that make sense. When we had our first big MTT and changed it to 1/5/25/100 for the same colors I was pretty surprised how some of the players got confused.

Now I'm back in the denom camp. I think the big hurdle to get over is deciding if a T25 with 0.25/0.50 starting blinds is as good as a T2500 with 25/50 starting blinds. If you don't mind tournaments using smaller value chips then a cash set can be a tournament set and have the denoms on the chips.

I say go with denoms. I played a tourny with non-denoms and it was terrible. It seemed everyhand people where asking values it just gets old

or it doesn't matter what ever i feel like.
colors will be something like :
red body / pink edge
blue / white
green / lavender or orange
black / lavender or orange
yellow / red

Yep denoms all the way, if you like start small " cash games " or go big for " tournaments " but for gods sake please don't try and use 25$ chips for 25¢ chips and 100$ chips for 1$ that's just a pain in the butt, never liked that idea ever. But always have fun.
