Chips: 24 | | | Nexgen - How important is colour Ok I'm just about to order a set of Nexgen River Tour chips.
I want to only get 4 colours.
Black Green Yellow and Purple.
Is it important for home games and turneys what colour I assign to what amount?
I like the black and purple most so was thinking of ordering most of them as the basis of the set instead of White and Red for instance.
Does this really matter.
PLUS...
For Nexgen River Tour owners. what are your favourite colours?
Thanks

Chips: 393 | | | For a home game, as long as everyone is clear on what you've set the denoms to be, it really doesn't matter what color you use. Many people around here tend to go by vegas conventions for coloring such as:
$1 = Blue(or White)
$5 = Red
$25 = Green
$100 = Black
$500 = Purple
$1000 = Yellow
But there is no reason that you have to follow that at all. In some states use different color standards. In California you'll find Yellow $5 chips and white $100 chips. In Atlantic city you won't find a blue $1, but only white.
A lot of people seem to like to follow the conventions, and for many people those have become so standard that they almost automatically assume that a green chip is $25, but there isn't any hard and fast rule that says you have to follow suit. So if those are the colors you like, I'd say go for it. Also, depending on the type of game you play you may be able to have it both ways. For instance if you play tourney style NLHE you can just have starting chipstacks and blinds set appropriately for a $100 black chip as the smallest chips. For instance you could have everyone start with 50k and blinds at 100/200 and go from there. That's just one example to illustrate that if it is a tourney the actual denominations don't really matter s long as you've planned out how many chips you want everyone to start with and how long you want the tourney to run. |

Chips: 1,211 | | | Yeah, assign them any color you want - especially if you are going to label them with denominations, then everyone will plainly see what they are worth.
I do have one caveat, however. I typically play in low-lighted areas - garage, deck at night, basement and I play with one guy who is colorblind - the black and purple, while definately the best colors, are really close in terms of looks. Maybe purple and yellow and then black then green? Just a thought, but, do you thing man. |

Chips: 501 | | I'd go with the "traditional" colours myself, but since it's your set you might as well go with the colours you like - especially if you're going to label them Quote: |

Maybe I'll go with lavender as the body colour for that one when I get a custom set instead... but it's definitely something to consider with the Nexgens as well. In a better lit area, it shouldn't be as much of a problem.

Chips: 12,758 | | | The colors you use for your setup are completely up to you.
As to your other questions, I have a set of 569 of the River Poker Tour chips and have been generally disappointed in them. The main reason concerns splitting along the seams either between the edgespots or where the edgespots meet the main chip body. This seems to be a problem on the yellow, green, purple, and black chips which feature the two color edgespots and is present on 90-95% of the chips I own. If you look in the various RPT threads available on this site, I think you will find I am not the only person to encounter this problem. Although I generally like the overall feel and look of the RPT chips, I cannot actually recommend it for this reason. Personally, it drives me nuts just to look at and has a tendency to snag on other chips as well as table coverings.
You may wish to consider the Las Vegas Nexgen chips as an alternative. Although I do not personally own any, I have never seen anyone report this problem in regards to those chips.

Chips: 1,566 | | | I was going to say the same thing as well. The LV nexgens do not have this problem.
Oh and I don't think color matters....but now I am going to buy a set of fauxs with the correct colors because the 11.5's I had before weren't correct. But then again I am an anal retentive @$$.

Chips: 572 | | | The RPT Nexgens have edge "dots" on the white, blue and red chips.
The green, black, purple and yellow have a standard sort of spotting.
The Green and Black, by the way, are the two most easily confused chips. |

Chips: 24 | | | Thanks to all Thanks for the intelligence.
I'm going to switch off the Nexgen RPT chips thanks to you.
The colours I'll please myself with but the darker colour confusion is something I thought may be a problem so I'll keep that in mind... thanks.
John, from www.pokerchiprevues.com highly reccomended the World Series Of Poker chips.
Does anyone know anything about them?
Thanks again.

I don't like the little edge 'dots' between the edge spots.
Cheers

If these are the chips your referring to,as you can see these samples wore out pretty quick, i had them on me at all times for a month in my pocket to see how the label would hold up, i was very disappointed, they looked great new, had a good feel to them, and the sound was OK---so i would recommend if you still like this chip set to get the one with the coin insert and there should be no problem with the wear of the emblem. Keep in mine my test was harsh on purpose to see how well they held up. Always get samples and let yourself be the judge, everyone has their own opinion. Hoped this helped in some small way. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
