They do have a bit of "dust" on them though it's a really fine layer. In other words, when you have a dusty shelf at home and you run your finger along it, you end up with dust on your finger. When you run your finger along a stack of ASM's you remove the layer of dust, but don't end up with anything on your finger. Here's a pic that might help illustrate the point:
That pic was taken on a very warm July afternoon. My finger was naturally moist from just sweating a little while being in the sun taking that pic. I simply ran my finger along the stack to try and capture the difference between dusty and dust free.
For the rest of my chips I ended up taking a cloth with just a hint of dampness and wiping the edges. I then did the oiling, as others have talked about. However, I was again really conservative with the oil and spent more time wiping it off than applying it. So when I was done my chips had a
slight shine though it's really more of a matte gloss. They have absolutely no residue oil left over and to pick them up and touch them you really don't have any sense that anything was ever applied to them.
Hope that helps,
