Unbelievable!

Just wondering, why are $2.50 chips called "snappers"?

I have heard it explained like this. The term snapper is referred to when dealers snap the chips out of the tray while paying a Blackjack. These chips are commonly used when paying the 3/2 on a Blackjack. Thats what I have heard before.

Very Nice MGM set too!

A natural blackjack, an ace with a 10 value card is called a snapper. It refers to the sound the cards make as the dealer is dealing them. And the $2.50 chip picked up the name becuase a standard bet was $5 and back in the day it paid 3:2 and thus the need for a fractional chip.

I have also heard it the way SOK explained but I think my explaination is the true origin of the term (and I am in no way trying to piss off the guy hotstamping my chips).

Re: Ultimate MGM Detroit Cash Set (PR0N)

I know you mentioned getting a rack of PNY 25's, I'd recommend getting some of these pictured below..

Matsui plaques are fantastic. And, you'd be able to get them for around $10 per plaque in the current Zion GB. Sure, it's going to cost a lot more than a rack of PNY's, but IMO, a rack of PNY's would detract from the set by an immeasurable amount. It's not that I don't like PNY's, I do like them. But with the set you have, I think your only options are the actual $25 live chip from the casino, or I think a plaque would make the set even more sick as well.

With the lion's head, it matches about as perfectly as possible without doing a custom plaque.

You're the second person to recommend those to me, and I'm seriously considering them. I just can't plunk down $25 per chip for the casino chips. If anything, I would prefer to add two more racks of $5 chips, which is still under consideration as well.

Go check out pictures of the Matsui Blue Sands plaques. They turned out fantastic.

The thing that's great about them, is you would be getting $2 in value for every $1 you spend (since the $20 plaques are about $10 per). That's a lot better than the 1 for 1 ratio of the casino chips.

I just think it would add something special to the set. In play, plaques tend to be almost like a status symbol for the big stacks.

What about getting 1 more rack of $5's, and like 40 of the plaques? That would cost you a little less money than 2 racks of $5's, and net you a few hundred more in $ value. Plus, you'd have the cool factor.
