I recently ordered 400 Casin Da Vinci chips from www.apokerstore.com. The Casino Da Vinci chips are made from the same material as the new Palm Import Clay Compression chips except they use the old mold (The Sprint logo mold).
First of all, I would highly recommend ordering from www.apokerstore.com. They have great prices and wonderful customer service. They were more then happy to answer all of my questions (and I had a million).
The chips themselves are fantastic. For the price, you can't beat them. They feel, stack, and sound very similar to Paulsons. This new chip was designed to target poker players who want the quality of a high end clay chip without paying an arm and a leg to get them.
I was able to stack a little over 50 chips without any problem. The chips were stacked on my kitchen table and when I moved the table the stack barley wobbled.
Out of the box the chips have a very chalky feel to them but after a while this goes away. The chips will also darken up after being handled. I'm guessing its because of the oils on your hand.
The edges on the chips are very sharp making them difficult to shuffle. After a few days of shuffling the edges loose their sharpness and can be shuffled with ease.
The best thing about these chips is the way they sound. I had a friend play with a stack of Paulson and a stack of Da Vincis and I honestly couldn't tell the difference.
Out of the 400 chips ordered I only had 3 bad chips. Two of the three chips had a hole in them. This was most likely caused from a bubble in the mold during the manufacturing process. The other bad chip just had the wrong label applied. It's a red $5 chip with a $25 label on one side.
The only bad thing I have to say about this chip is the way they smell. Just like the sample I ordered these chips have a very musty smell to them at first. Thankfully after time the smell does go away...
I got a set of the Palm import clays and was not impressed. Compared to any of the real clays, especially my Paulson samples, they seemed light, slippery and very "plastic-ee". They did not appeal to me at all. They looked nice and the price was right, but they don't "feel" nice. Matt said he just threw his away.
I've heard others say that theirs weren't slippery for very long and here you state that these were even "chalky" when you first got them.
I'm starting to think that the material and feel of the chips varies widely by batch.

You may be right...My chips are very chalky. Maybe you can order a sample of the Da Vinci's and compare?

Weight wise theyre on par with Paulsons-- within a few tenths of a gram I believe--
Do you have the original mold ( looked like a BC flame) or the new mold ( interlocking L)
THere were a few changes made between these molds-- but not sure where the plasticy feel comes from- they feel on par with any clay weve seen/handled and not of an abs composition
Hmm
