(hasn't anybody invented a chip-oiling machine yet?) | Yup -- that's tonight deal -- watch movies with the kids while oiling chips. Oh, and the chip-oiling machine is 11 years old -- he works great! |

Sweet looking chips by the way! |

Those chips look great by the way...makes me want some solid BCC T-molds even more! | Smitty! yeah baby, all done and it worked GREAT! I had a large stainless mixing bowl that I put 1.5 qts in which is just to bring the level up high enough to work. Then I took a large plastic strainer that JUST fit inside, place 20 chips at a time, laying flat, dipped it into the oil for just a moment until all were covered. I then lifted it up and tilted it so 90% of the oil dripped out back into the stainless bowl. I then had another large bowl (#2) that, while I was hold the strainer a foot above the stainless bowl (catching the drips), I quickly put it understander the strainer and set it aside.
I know I explain everything way too detailed and I wish I had pics, but I then had bowl #2 with the strainer and dipped chips sitting there. I used a towel to wipe off the excess oil then did it over and over again. Now I KNOW some follks would frown upon dipping the chips entirely due to the danger of oil getting under the inlay. All I can say is with respect to the Speakeasys this never happened. Also, with only doing 20 chips at a time, the turn around time was so quick that the oil never really sat there very long.
I'm desparately trying to get my basement ready for a surprise 30th b-day for my neighbor so I don't have time to shoot pics, but will tomorrow. I'll even try to show the technique you inspired me to try. Thanks again!

That sounds great, I don't know why I never thought of it before! If I get some T-molds, this is definitely what I will be doing. None of my chips have inlays, just hotstamped or plain, so oil under the inlay won't even come into play. Did you let them dry on a towel after they had been soaked or did you just let them sit in the oil for a bit, drain off the oil, and then wipe them off completely?
Thanks for the update, pics of the process would be great...hopefully this will be helpful to others! The Northwest strikes again!!!
Have a good one...more pics of the chips would be welcomed as well!
