An X-mas present to myself *new chips 8.2.2k7**

Bought my first chips two months ago, it was a set of 100 $25 St Jo's, the ones that are slightly fractured. Little did I know that it might be the start of an addiction. I knew that I can't have a game with only one denomination so I got 500 roulette St Jo's with three different colours so that I could use them as a tournament set. Well then I read about Bud Jones and thought the V7's look darn cool.

Got these today.

I appologize for the fuzzy pictures, but its night here and those brass inlays makes it hard to take decent pics. I'll gladly post more pics later if there is any interest. Have'nt even had the time to clean them yet.

They are from the Americana, Aruba.
150 $5
100 $25
50 $100

I particularly like the $100. The black and pink looks nice.

Additionaly I got 10 $500 from the Caribbean, Aruba since I thought some higher denom chips could be useful in tournament. I figured the oversized $1000 would make a nice dealer button.

Have'nt inspected all the chips yet, but they look to be ok - although several of the $5's have seen some rough treatment. The worst is probably this one which looks burned:

Can't wait to try these out in a game, with any luck it should be next week. I've been curious about the suction effect that BJ's were told to have (no pun intended). It does feel nice. I thought it would make shuffling impossible, but I'm no worse at shuffling these than paulsons.

Re: An X-mas present to myself

Great chips. The problem I had shuffling chips at the Borgata is when they are not clean. They do tend to stick together, either way they feel great.

I think those are the only coin inlay chips I've ever seen that I liked. Congrats on the pick up.

Thanks! Not sure if I like the brass or the shinier ones better, but I've understood that the brass ones are much rarer so I figured I should get my money back in case I need to sell the set sometime in the future. I don't think I've even seen a complete sett of brass inlays other than these, saw some individual MGM $25 chip that looked exactly like the ones in this set though.

The oversized 1k's sure are nice. Would have loved to get more $500's and 1k's even though they are of a different set, but they are a bit pricey. I only have 50 of the $100, and I've usually played T1000 tournaments with my friends, I think I need to start playing T500 since the chip ammounts would be better suited for something smaller.

I'll get you more pics after Christmas

Thanks! I'm kind of afraid your right. I usually play with 5-7 people, so it gets hard for me to motivate why I need the 900 chips I already have. Been thinking of selling some of the ones that I probably won't need, but it feels so hard to let them go Luckily my girlfriend just thinks its funny when I'm all excited about getting a new delivery of chips.

Re: An X-mas present to myself

I've got a 500 set of those brass inlays from Jim at NJs they are terrific, particularly like the $5 chip.

You're right about the lacquer and I have a lot of cleaning up on the chips to do. Out of the 500 though they are pretty much all in good/great condition just one slightly misshaped edge.

Ta for the pics

Re: An X-mas present to myself

Sorry for the delay in posting more pics. I just started cleaning out the set. Here is a pic of the $5's drying after a mild soak and wipe:

I love the fact that even though I first washed the chips which I deemed most dirty & used all could still stand on their edge, 2 chips needed a little help. I guess the hard plastic keeps the edges sharp even though these must have seen quite a bit of use.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do to make the brass shine? From Wikipedia I read that some fluoride toothpaste would prevent corrosion, but I'd rather listen to your advice before I get the tootbrush

I played a game with these last week, and my friends loved them.
