Re: My New Desert Palms Chinese Imports

These look great. If these existed when I first started my chip obsession, I might be $1,000 in the black. Nice set.

Re: My New Desert Palms Chinese Imports

I'm glad for you that you are happy with your purchase, and don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have a few questions about these chips. I have a few of them too and I really do not like them much at all. In terms of feel, what other chips do you generally compare these to?

Re: My New Desert Palms Chinese Imports

These chips are not Paulson chips but they are a clay composite with nice edge spots and a nice denominated inlay. They also don't cost 1.15/chip. They're in the 25cent/chip range and if I were to compare them I wold say these are a better buy than Nexgen chips. So if you want to fairly compare them thats the yard stick that I would use.

I agree- far nicer then Nexgens
you would sell a ton of these if you got them under .20/chip.

Re: My New Desert Palms Chinese Imports

I just ordered a sample set of these from the chiproom. I was seriously considering a set of Nexgens and now I'm very intrigued by these.

I'd always thought I'd get a non-traditional set of chips like the Tiki Kings or Romans, but the price seems great and everyone seems to love these.

Once I get my samples and assuming I'm happy with them, I'd be interested in a group buy of these with a custom inlay.

Re: My New Desert Palms Chinese Imports

I finally got my set of Desert Palms Pure Clay!
Nice chips. They sound really good, they look good, feel good (warning: it still is a plastic feeling), easy to shuffle, ...
But they do have one major flaw: these chips are super-slick! High stacking is a risky business!
Another disappointment is the chip case. It feels cheap and fragile.
Besides that, I've ordered 500 chips and a total of 5 chips were slightly damaged or had bleeding edge-spots.

I like these chips and I know I'm going to have tons of fun with them. But I'm not as satisfied as I thought I was going to be. I overpaid these... Paid more than the double because I live in Belgium (shipping and customs ). Next holiday I'm going to the states and for a bit more than that I have real clay chips!
But I can't complain, imported nexgen's in Belgium are not so much cheaper than what I paid for these Desert Palms.

If anyone needs more pics of these nice chips, let me know!

Greets,

Jakob

Yeah I agree, I wish they had .25c imports I bought a set of 400 of the imports for a .25/.50 game I wound up using the $25 as .25c which is cool but in the back of my mind it irks me that it isn't really .25c. but besides that I love them! Coming from 11.5g pastics it took a few days to get used to the weight difference, then it was all love. Now I can't come near 11.5g metal slug chips the sound of them is like nails on a chalkboard to me and I'm a newbie! I ordered a paulson national sample to compare while it was better I didn't find it .80c better the extra half a gram weight makes a nice difference the inlay is clearly a much higher quality than the china imports but overall I felt they were comparable with the Paulson National edging out the imports but not by as much as the price difference.*

*Just a disclaimer I am a newbie and this is only my second set of chips. The Paulson National comparison was made with one chip and not a stack.

Re: My New Desert Palms Chinese Imports

I agree that these are super-slick. They are not, in any way, clay chips from what I could tell. They seem to be made of hard plastic. I actually threw my samples in the trash, sorry.

Re: My New Desert Palms Chinese Imports

I just recieved two sample sets of these chips. I currently own 1700 labled Nexgens. If these chips were available when I bought the Nexgens I would have gone with these. No metal slug and a better sound when suffling. I have a sample set of the modern clays buy Blue Chip and they are similar in feel in sound. Like everyone else has stated they are still plastic, but nice looking chips for 25 cents a piece. These would be great if they had no label. I peeled the lable off and put my vinyl label from my Nexgens on. What a great custom chip these could be. If Joe from Palm Imports or Jim from The Chip Room could get blanks, watch out Nexgens.

go look at the chiproom in the marketplace forum. We are doing a contest to choose edgespot colors for 2 new mold designs that will be on the same type of chip. they will be recessed for labels.
