Evolution of my collection (in pictures)

There have been several threads in the past about "how many chips do you own" or "how many chips have you sold", but I think I can accomplish both in pictures. Every now and then I get bored and get all the chips out for a group picture (my fiancé calls me a dork but I do it anyway). It was interesting looking back at some of the older pictures of my chipsets and watching my collection evolve into what it is today.

A couple years ago I hit the right side of a bad beat jackpot at a casino ($12,000) and decided to buy a nice set of poker chips. This is before chiptalk.net and just before home market Paulson chips became available again. The best I could do was a set of Modern Clays and a set of the Achetype chips. Although these were nice, they weren't quite what I was looking for. Vineyards were just starting to be listed on eBay so I bought about 1,000 at a great price, I think the $20 chips were the most expensive by far, $1.50 per chip, the other denominations were less. I've bought and sold many chips, the only reason I list the Vineyard purchase is because the sale of those chips financed some of my subsequent purchases. I like the Vineyards, and have owned them on three separate occasions. Lots of buys and sells later and I have about 9 playable retired casino chipsets in my collection.

Sold the dice chips, sold the Modern Clays

Sold the Vineyards and Archetype chips, bought 1,000 mint Dunes chips, Discovery Cruise chips and group buy WSOP chipcos

Sold the WSOP chipcos and Rounders Card Club Matsuis and 600 Dunes, bought Mullet Bay and Dodge City chips

Sold Dodge City, bought Wyndhams, Vineyards (again) and Christos

Sold Vineyards and Palmas, bought St. Jo's

Sold Discovery Cruise, Dunes and Christos, bought Grand Casino Gulfport chips (house and tournament), Presidents Biloxi, Ambassador Plaza

Sold Mullet Bays, sold small Discovery Cruise set, (re)bought Christos and Vineyards.

I sold a bunch of chips in December, I did buy a Dunes set though. 5,000+ Paulsons just don't look very impressive after the prior pictures.

UPDATED 6/10/07
I haven't updated in a while, several sets were bought and sold and never even made a picture. This should be it for a while. I do have 200 more Chips Casino Tukwila in transit, and I need 10 more $500 plus 2 more $1,000 Dunes chips to complete that set (I used some other sample chips to fill in the Dunes set for the picture, Tukwila set will be 1,400 chips when complete).

Just another update, however the collection may be complete. I'm very pleased with what I now have. I love the CIC chips and the Dunes and Ritz chips are amazing.

Re: Evolution of my collection (in pictures)

I actually just bought 1,021 Christo's. I'm not sure why but I like that set and I got a good price on them. There is no way I'll lose money on that set. I generally try to keep my chipsets down to 6 sets, but I'm sitting at 10 right now so I may be shifting back to sell mode. With all of the chips I have, the St. Jo's may be my favorite, mint, shaped inlays, giant (or grand?) inlay on the $5 chip. I really like that set and it was probably the most affordable of the bunch. The damage on the $25's is minimal as these are the best of the 1,200 $25's I once owned. The damage is just not noticeable unless you really examine the chip, and even then it's tough on most of them.

Re: Evolution of my collection (in pictures)

St Jo's are definitely nice. I have a primary cash and tourney set and have to deal with the bigger cracks on the $25. I was thinking of keeping a secondary cash set for the mint $1s but I really like how the used primary $1 feel so I'm keeping them instead. I take it you removed the hotstamps on all the chips except the 50¢, right?
