Wooden Chip Trays

I couldn't find decent wooden chip trays anywhere, and I didn't want my Pharaohs housed in plastic, so I designed my perfect chip tray. I planned to build them myself, but once they were designed and I started reading up on woodworking, I realized I didn't have the tools or the time to make them myself. I ended up hiring a professional and they turned out great IMHO! Here's a link to the pictures of his progress making them:

I just got them today. They fit perfectly in my Pelican 1500 case. The only problem I have now is nothing to keep my mind off the Pharaohs! Are they here yet? Are they here yet?

Alot more than I intended to spend, but once I got into it I couldn't turn back. For all the work he put in, I got a great deal. They were a little over $400 with shipping and everything. I also had him build a prototype first to be sure everything worked right, which cost extra.

I couldn't decide which wood to use, so I jokingly told him to make them all different. He loved the idea, and it worked out well for my chips too.

Tourney Chips/Trays:
Padauk - orangish set for the $1000's
Purple Heart - obviously the purple set for the $500's
Wenge - the darkest one for the $100's
Canary Wood - the yellow set for the $25's
Bubinga - the one in the closeup for extra $100's

Cash Game: Walnut, Cherry, Oak, Poplar, Maple

Packemup- Those trays look great- certainly better than the mass-produced variety. I took special note of the dimples in the bottom of the tray to allow for stacking- also innovative. You don't see that kind of detail in commercial types.

The price may seem somewhat steep, but consider each one is hand-made. If there's minimal dimesional variatons between each tray comparitively (except color), then that's the sign of a true craftsman. And that's what you're paying for. I dabble a bit with woods myself.

Function, and beauty- with a unique look. Enjoy!
-And thanks for sharing that with us!

Good eye on the bottom grooves. Did you notice the magnets that hold them together? They were pretty cheap, and gold-plated. Added a nice touch. All the trays are interchangeable as trays/lids and between species. He did a great job on the tolerances. Also, the finger holes on the side should show off the Pharaoh inlays nicely! Are they here yet?

Since you dabble, if you'd like the cad file of the design, let me know. I'm happy to share if anyone is interested, and I'm sure Marc would love to make some more (now that he learned his lessons on mine ), for those like me who don't have the tools or skills. These are quite nice, a quick question on how the magents are mounted. Are the magnets on either side staggered, so top + top can be mounted as well (but only when rotated a certain way)? or did you mount all the top/bottom magnets the same, thus it must be a top + bottom combo but the orientation between the two is meaningless. Just curious
