I'd be game. | FWIW, I emailed Marc (the craftsman) about the possibility of group pricing, and here is his reply: Quote: |
Concerning the trays, I would certainly be willing to provide bulk pricing. As it stands, the price range is $30-$35 (depending on the species of wood) per tray set. Just to be perfectly clear, a tray set consists of an identical top and bottom. For an order of 20-50 sets, the price range would drop to $27-$32. Orders of 50 or more fall in the range of $25-$30.

Chips: 29,466 | | | I've also been corresponding with Marc. I'm interested in a custom mission-style chipcase. (Actually, more of a chip "dresser", since it'll have about 13 drawers and hold 5000 to 6000 chips.)
One design idea is to just make plain drawers, then fill them with these wooden chipracks. I'll also need chipracks that hold silver strikes, octagons, and plaques. If I go this route, I'll be ordering 25 or 30 chipracks, so a group buy seems quite possible.

I asked Marc about a smaller case (750-800 chips) and received a reasonable estimate, but I've got no immediate plans to move forward with this. |

- Yes (up to ~3 ft.) - But a fixture for a hand drill or even a brace should work.

. | Good luck. I hope the cheapo drill bit doesn't disintegrate when it contacts the wood for the first time. Quote: |
And remember, there is no more important safety rule than to wear these: <points to glasses> safety glasses.

| | It should be good enough to bore a few dozen or so holes before it dulls. If I go into mass-production, I'll fork out for a carbide or CD bit.
Safety glasses always! -And a good supply of clamps!

Chips: 1,589 | | | Those trays look really sweet.
I have asked about high quality chip cases and it seems that if you really want something super nice, you have to either a) make it yourself or b) have it custom made.
I am thinking about making a case or 2 of my own. These trays might inspire me!
I would like to see what you come up with for smaller chip cases. ie. 500-1000 chips. It looks like your woodworker guy could really come up with something nice.
I'm another one that would be in favor of a group buy.
BTW what is quarter sawn oak? How does that differ? Does it give a different grain pattern?

... | When I emailed Marc, I received a rough quote of around $250 for a custom-made case. No details were discussed, so that figure could be very inaccurate. Quote: |

AB | Quarter-sawn oak is regular red- or white-oak that has been cut along a particular angle so that a specific grain pattern (known as "rayflake") is exposed. This process gives the wood a recognizable pattern characteristic of mission style (aka arts and crafts, craftsman style) furniture and woodworkings. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
