Are the magnets on either side staggered, so top + top can be mounted as well (but only when rotated a certain way)? or did you mount all the top/bottom magnets the same, thus it must be a top + bottom combo but the orientation between the two is meaningless. Just curious | I went with each tray having a north and south end. This way they are all interchangeable. He did sign them all such that if you line up the sigs you have the proper orientation. |

Chips: 684 | | | Wow, those are nice nice trays, indeed. Your woodworker has a very nice shop, too (even his workbench is a work of art). I see that he does a lot of Mission style work. I've been looking for a Mission style case made with quarter-sawn oak. Maybe I'll have to hit him up for an estimate...
Very clever they way he formed the channels for the chips by clamping two blocks together and running a forsner bit through both at the same time. I noticed the magnets in the photos before I read further in the thread and thought that was a great idea. |

I could definitely go for one of those! I'd like one to hold 1000 chips, and another to hold 2000 chips, and another... and another...

I looked at some of the other pieces this guy has built and the rayflaking on the quarter-sawn oak that he used is absolutely beautiful. I'm sure many have seen the "American Oak" chip case, which is very nice, IMO. But if I get a Mission style case, the wife might actually let me store it somewhere other than the closet! |

Chips: 28 | | | When I saw the wood selections the one I was least excited about was the quarter-sawn oak. Little did I know...I'll have to get a hold of the camera from work and post some close-ups of the different woods. The QS Oak has an unbelievable ring pattern in the slots. It looks like two sets of rings overlapping. Of course, they are all unique in their own way. I can't wait to see which trays my players latch onto as their "lucky" trays. I probably set myself up for some more "I called that chair" type arguments. |

Chips: 303 | | Not only looks, but quarter-sawn is probably the best choice for that application with all those cuts. QS is usually a premium mill run cut. Your man knows his stuff...
