500 chip wood burl case: mini review

I'd seen these online several times, but wasn't sure about the quality. Last night, while browsing a store in the Desert Passage in Las Vegas, I came across this case. $100 in the store. That's just a bit more expensive than those mahogany cases that are pretty popular.

I think it's a great looking case. The clear glass top shows off your chips a bit. The burl wood looks classy. The case is solid wood, with the burlwood veneer inlaid.

The top drawer has a special place for the dealer button, a slot with room for 7 dice, and spaces for two normal decks of cards. It also hosts two of those removable wood chip trays. Each tray will hold 100 chips (4 rows x 25 chips/row). Actually, I was able to easily fit 26 BJ chips in a row, and 27 Paulsons was a snug fit.
The joinery is nothing fancy --- just mitered corners on the drawer and butt joints on the chip trays.

The bottom drawer is also removable. It hosts 3 more of those removable wooden chiptrays.

All-in-all, this is one of the best looking cases I've seen, and at $100 I'd consider it a bargain.

Yea, that is a very nice case. It has a "vintage" look to it (not intended as an insult) which I really like. I prefer the antiqued look to the highly polished alternatives. Great find!

Now, I only wish I could find a nice quarter-sawn oak craftsman/mission style case.

Looks like a nice case. I like burl so that suits me fine. Next time I am in Vegas, I will have to look for one.
