Locking 2400 Chip case

I just picked up this thing from Harbor Freight:

<edited by mod> DEEP LINK REMOVED. PLEASE DO NOT DEEP LINK
</edit>

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=36871

and it works pretty slick as a chip case. It fits 4 stacks of 6 chip racks with room for at least 4 decks of cards on top of the chips. There is enough room on the sides of the racks that they are easy to get out, but not so much that you have to worry about the racks falling over. You can get all the chip racks out with only one of the lids open. I've got about 1800 chips in it now, and the top of the case does bend out some when you pick it up. No catastrophic failures yet, though I'm not sure it could handle a full 2400 chips. I'm going to fit a board to the inside floor of it to help ensure the bottom doesn't bust out. Probably overkill, I think the case will hold up fine to 2000 chips as long as I don't throw it around too much.

The case was $30, but all of HFs stuff goes on sale eventually, and it will probably be $15-20 sooneror later.

Cool. I'm getting an 'X' on your photo. Did you just take a photo of the case or did you take a photo of the case with chips in it?

I'd like to see how much room there is between racks when the chips are inside.

the pic is just linked from HFs site. I can post some more pics tomorrow, but there is enough room to get your fingers down the side of the rack. Not much, but enough.

Re: 2400 Chip case

This sounds like it could end up being a very heavy case whether it holds up or not. I think I'd think twice about trying ti carry it by the handle, that's where it may cause some frame failure. I guess the carrying strap would come in very handy.

I would think you should carry it by the strap and the handle!!! It doesn't look like either would stand up to much abuse.

Good idea though. Hey..maybe you could reinforce the top below the handle?? Or Reinforce the strap hinges and hooks somehow!! That might allow you to get to 2400!!

I think we're overlooking the obvious here. A board outside under the case ... with casters!

I'm considering casters, but for now it's fine like it is. The strap may be a better way to carry it, but the strap that comes with it has crappy plastic clips that will defanitly fail with this weight. I'm going to dig up another strap from some extra luggage and try that.

Some pics:

4 chip racks fit with plenty of room to get them out. There are built in folder things on both sides for holding papers (blind structures/copies of house rules/etc) or whatever. The business card holders work great for dealer buttons:

This is 5 racks high on the right and 4 on the left

It will fit 6 racks stacked vertically with room for a few decks of Copags on top.

Great setup, but it has got to be one heavy SOB to carry fully loaded.
